Absolutely fabulous! I went through all the details with the children then decided we could take it further and got the children to choose what type of farm they would have if they could choose ie; pig farmer, fruit farmer, vegetable farmer, etc They had to do a business plan and then start trading with each other. It was fabulous they really enjoyed it.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? We were able to research our favourite animals and write simple narratives and ‘who am I?’ descriptions of animals. My tamariki loved the Brick Farm kit! We were easily able to cover all areas of the curriculum using these bricks and branching off and exploring more in depth what the children were most interested in.

The students in Room 1 were very excited to see all of the Countdown Bricks. They worked in groups to make the buildings and machines. This was quite challenging for a lot of them but with some support they all achieved success. They really enjoyed the game and wanted to play it frequently. We played the most simple version and they were able to open one of the small packets for our class if they achieved the task. I have attached some photos of their work.

What a resource - thank you. Students enjoyed opening the packets and making all the small parts into farm pieces. We then worked in small groups to make up the larger items together with our older buddy class. The older class are learning stop animation and will then share their knowledge and make stop animation using the brick farm resource together with the younger students. Looking forward to seeing this when its complete.

I loved this kit and so did my class! It's been really interesting watching the children with this kit, who could use teamwork to build things together, who took over, who could persevere, who gave up, who preferred to make their own creations etc. Budgets at school are tight, this kit comes with so many amazing recourses/equipment that we get to keep for the class. I found it a great box for the start of the year. Thank you!

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? None of our families have the money to buy this kit, and they are town children. If it hadn't been gifted to us they would not have had the opportunity to put all the pieces together, play with it, and learn about the equipment that is needed on a farm.

We have loved playing with our farm kit. The students enjoyed the surprise of opening the small packets and putting the tiny pieces together, adding the stickers, then placing them on our tray with the bigger pieces. When we played the bingo game we also learnt the animal names in te reo Māori and practiced our pronunciation. Some students were unfamiliar with the equipment used on a farm so we had fun investigating what they were and how they could be used. We also talked about our favourite vegetables and fruits. The tiles were also used for sorting and grouping. We used the animals when we were singing about Old MacDonald's farm, and also incorporated them in our imaginative play with Mrs Wishy Washy's muddy cow, pig, and duck - and dog, goat, and hen.
