I didn’t cheese and yoghurt came from cows. Farmers not only look after animals they make hay to feed their animals.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
Inclusion of te reo maori words it, the more you use them the more it becomes everyday language. The blind bags become something special to the kids and they still refer the objects they opened as theirs - including naming them.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
Greater sense how and where food comes from - not just the supermarket. My children are not known to have much experience including owning it so they will definitely remember it. They have also enjoyed building it again.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy?
Lots of topic specific words and lots or misconceptions sorted. Loved looking and describing animals and we also and a variety of fruit and vegetables in our class that we cooked in different ways. Awesome for language.
