What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? A lot more discussion about feelings and emotions.

“My class have really enjoyed different aspects of this kit, in particular, looking at different feelings and why we have them... and they loved filling in the first page of the journal and seeing what three words their teacher used to describe them. I feel like they are looking at themselves a little differently, and are starting to recognise that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. The strength and boost cards were great for some class discussions. It was disappointing when some parents didn't complete the letters for their children, so I'd rethink how I would do this next time. I also found some of the videos were a bit beyond the maturity of the kids in my class.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The journal and the information from their adult. As we worked through our relationships and sexuality unit this helped support greatly.

“We found this kit really usefull for supporting our relationships and sexuality teaching and learning. The journal in particular helped students learn more about themselves and the people in their life that they feel comfortable with and are able to talk to. We had some struggles with a negative classroom culture near the end of the year and this helped bring us back together with understanding each other more and how we treat others, really affects us and them. Students were able to identify their own strengths and communicate this. It helped build self confidence and admiring differences.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The taking charge station. Allowing the students to take time to recharge their mind and body when they are not feeling 100%

Individual children will come to me if upset or worried - other children will come to me and tell me if a peer needs to talk to me because they are in teh red zone

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Currently we have only used the daily check in system

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? I am hoping that all children realise that all teachers are there for them not just their own class teacher. Our classrooms are open to them all and that as adults we are there to educate them not just their minds but ensure that their well being is taken care of as well

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? A more open and fun atmosphere as communication develops and not afraid to talk about emotions when asked

“This kit is amazing and has so many layers to it. As the junior teacher in a rural school with a large percentage of ESOL children I have used it to build better relationships with the children in the senior room. One pre dominant culture at our school is very shy and reserved so to get them to open up and communicate about their feelings and self worth I have had to first develop a strong sense of trust with them all. The daily check in tokens have been great for this. The children have to come into my classroom to do this and it has allowed for natural conversations to start with children that I do not alredy have a repore with. As a very small school it is important for children to be able to have more than their class teacher to turn to. As a this has taken a whole term to establish these relationships and comunications the rest of the kit will be ongoing”
