Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I liked using the tokens. In the morning when we got to school we would put them in the box where we thought we were that day. I liked having to think about where i should put mine. I liked the art we did. We did self portraits and we had to write our random thoughts around them.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? My tamariki enjoyed working through the booklets. It was good to have something to send home (booklets, caring adult letters) and get whānau involved also.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Being able to think about the way they see all aspects of themselves - their emotions, strengths, challenges, likes, dislikes. And who are the people to go to when they need support.

In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence Understanding that it's easy for us to see the negatives about ourselves but others see positives that we don't even think about. My class loved the video with the forensic artist who drew people from their self descriptions and then descriptions from others. This video clip made this easy for them to understand and we did it as a class activity where they described themself to a buddy who drew a portrait from the description.

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? Awareness of their emotions and what level their batteries are at. Understanding how they view themselves and how others view them. Being able to identify who the caring adults are in their lives.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Writing the letter- fostered positive discussion and some powerful/meaningful writing.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them The Students enjoyed reading the cards and trying to follow the examples. They liked being able to share, without having to say it out loud.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The buttons with their name on them, it gave them the power to name how they were feeling.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? They have come into class and requested their buttons, so they could put it into the slot box. I will continue to use this in Term 4, as they have asked to do this. It is satisfying to see them read the cards, or to see how valued they feel when I follow up with them. This has led to students being referred to the counselor, something that may have been missed without this resource. I really love it.

In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence The ability to name their feelings and to know it is OK to have goid/ok/bad time is great. Being able to own how they are feeling and being able to ask for help quietly has really led to more confidence in sharing what is happening in their lives

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? Feelings. At the start some of the boys were a bit silly about people putting buttons in the red, but after discussions and doing the activities they are now much more respectful and empathetic to others having a bad day.

“This kit really opened the doors of communication with my Year 7/8 Students. In a High School when you only have your students a few times a day, they were able to let me know how they were getting on. I could follow up with those who were in distress. I also kept a record of what students answered so I could see if there was a change in the pattern of their answers.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The charging station as it was practical for the children and they could physically engage.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? That resilience comes in many different shapes and forms. It is ok to feel how you feel.

In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence It has helped them to be confident at school but also at home. Students are more likely to ask for help if they need it. We have seen an increase in classroom sharing.

“The Self Confidence Kit could not have come at a better time. Some of our Tamariki were struggling with their well being and confidence after Cyclone Gabrielle. The charging station allowed our children a safe place to make significant gains for their well being. We linked the kit in with Te Whare Tapa Whā and the students had a good understanding about how these are connected. We still have the display up in our classroom as the students feel it helps them.”

This lead to them asking for emotional wellness journals with Mindful coloring, journal prompts, coping strategies and more all inspired from this kit! Thank you!
