“Hi. I have used the Counties Power it up Kit in the past and thought that this kit would be up to the same standard. I found it really disappointing. I didn't use my kit until Term 4 and by then the batteries were not working and I couldn't get the electric dough to work so didn't even share it with my class. Some of the resources were ok such as the poster and poem.”

“My class really enjoyed making the circuits and it linked well with our recent trip to Motat. I also learnt something, as I did not know how to make a simple circuit before we started! It made the topic of electricity come alive. I also found things online that helped their understanding.”

“The range of resources provided in the kit were all very well interlinked, and each led to learning and deepening students' understanding and knowledge about energy, energy transformations, and electricity. Students were fascinated seeing the LED lights light up in the playdough and spent a lot of time having fun, altering the arrangement and shapes of the playdough to see what happened. The discussion tasks were fantastic and vibrant ideas and thoughts flowed in as we went through the cards. The popping popcorn task and movements task were also great at realizing and identifying the form of energy changes. Overall, the students have gained a lot and we thank the school kit squad for the wonderful resource that has been compiled. It has sparked many brains to think scientifically and critically. We have enjoyed it.”

How did the components of this kit allow your students to explore the topic of energy transformation? The battery powerpacks did not provide enough power to light up the LED's. I had to buy additional powerbanks that hold 3 or 4 batteries from a local electrical shop. These ones I purchased provided enough power. Once I had done this the students enjoyed using the playdough to explore how a circuit functions.
