How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We bought this into basic science for our 5 year olds, such as how does a plant grow? What does it need to survive, how can we care for them etc

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? All those mentioned above. We also planted hanging baskets outside our classroom as well as our vegetable garden so the kit was our beginning point, which inspired us to go further as the children really enjoyed it.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? After we planted the little garden league veges we were inspired to plant our own vegetable garden at school. We also bought in vegetables from home to make vegetable soup and try different types of vegetables.

“I loved the little garden resource. It was easy to plant and the children loved it. I would suggest a different type of pottle/package for the plants as these ones got very wet when watered and the stickers and garden labels came off due to this and it was also hard to keep the students name on. A popsicle stick is what I ended up using instead.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? My class wrote descriptions of a chosen vegetable from the kit. They were also able to write a description of how to plant a plant.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will plant our little plots into our class garden and continue to grow the plants until they are ready to harvest! We will then compare the size of the plants at the end of term 3 to the size of them at the end of term 4!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some of my children had no idea how some of the vegetables grew. There were also some children that had not heard of some of the herbs and vegetables at all! We were able to discuss what these were and try some of them too!

“My class really enjoyed planting the little pots of plants together. Each child was able to pot their own and they were very excited to watch them grow. They have enjoyed caring for the plants and watering them often. They have thoroughly enjoyed completing the code crackers each week and they were able to remember the letter to picture code the following week.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We covered literacy (writing recipes, labelling vegetables, writing sentences. Reading/maths with the secret messages). We made art - creating vegetables for our wall garden.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We can look into the progress of our vegetables and try planting different vegetables depending on the seasons.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We made vegetable soup that was initiated by the children. They knew that eating vegetables was good for them and they knew that we could use them in a soup to share with our friends.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Loved the introduction, the secrecy etc (we wrote about this) Secret Codes were also great (reading).

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Could do some measurement activities once vegies rae growing depending on the plant...ie beans?

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As the vegies are still seedlings we are not up to promoting healthy eatting. They will be sent home before they get to grow into vegies for picking.

“Really liked how the kit came with the tray for sitting the little pots into it. I did like the plastic labels used previously although prob not as enviro friendly. The new ones being cardboard didn't sit in the soil pot so well..fell out, lost etc.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did lots of noticing and observing which is part of the scjmience curriculum. We did a lot of writingabiut the plants and reading around the decoding messages. We measured the stems.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? When the plants are grown we would try some food preparation in our classes. We would also continue to look after the plants and perhaps look at what flowers would provide natural pesticides.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children expressed a very enthusiastic attitude toward vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science (seeds, plants, bees) health (food to grow on,) literacy, (recipes, experiences, menus, reading books on the topic, letters and application forms, code breaking) maths, tally marks, estimation, measuring)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To continue to learn about bees as a high interest area that came up. To encourage gardening at home and sustainability, nude food.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened them up to trying different vegetables and other foods. I did use it in conjunctions with other healthy eating resources.

“I enjoyed the whole experience with the children, they loved it, great excitement with the letter box and all facets. The linked videos were great too. Liked that the box became the letter box, very earth friendly.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Incorporating literacy skills, as well as participating and contributing, and oral language was great. We LOVED vege Patch match, for all of the skills it developed.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We would love to continue to grow and plant in our own gardens at school. This was a great kick start for more of that in the coming months.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Once our plants are fully grown we will have the chance to explore this. At the moment they are still seedlings.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We thorouglhy enjoyed engaging with weekly code in our writing time. Lots of science which tied in nicely with our edible gardens programme.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to replant our veggies and the children will continue to care for them and see the stages of the plant growth. The children have lots of interest in growing their own plants now.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have been learning about how vegetables can come from plants and to give new foods a go.

“This was a great kit that was accessible for a wide range of age groups. My Year 1's loved it and really enjoyed the concept of joining the secret club. They have learnt lots about caring for and growing plants, that plants provide us with food and resilience in being brave and trying new foods.”
