How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I learnt about things that I did not know before. This made learning authentic as I was on the same learning journey as were my class. I’m more confident using the kit and you have made it so easy to use because the research has already been initiated. If I want to find out more, I can.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I have investigated Glenfield’s history a couple of years ago and would like to do this again. It was harder to find out the local Māori history and I am not sure who to ask.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This was huge because it reassured me that what I was learning came from local iwi and therefore, both sides of the story were considered.

“This was a stunning resource which had us hooked right from the start. After having a play with the postcards and resources to get familiar with how it worked, the class ended up working together through the Gold Rush. It linked perfectly to James Russell’s new book ‘Children of the Rush’ and children who would usually not get involved, were making connections, asking questions and continuing with their own research. It honestly is a stunning resource and I feel that there is so much more in the kit that I have not yet discovered. I really would love to revisit this again on 2024.”

“The students were very engaged throughout. They really enjoyed the part of the unit about the march and thinking about photographs. We did not get to finish the entire unit, unfortunately. My co-teacher and I did find the teacher's instructions and sequence very complicated to follow and the whole thing was quite confusing. I think that the process and teacher's instructions part of the website could be made much clearer and more straightforward! It would have been good to have the pictures/photos separated in some way to go with the parts that they related to.”

“I used this kit as a provocation for our unit 'People and Communities show responsibility for sustaining what is important to them. The focus for Term 2 was 'our story' - the story of our school and community. Our school was working towards celebrating the 150th year centennary of our school/education in the area. The resources in the kit were really good to use to for looking at stories of people who arrived in our country (community), the voyages and hardships they undertook. 'The something happened here' box of photos helped with perspectives - I diversified the unit and contextualised some of the material for my class. The flour sack even became a prop for our performance. A really good kit.”

“Hi there, thank you so much for this resource. As a school, we used this unit to coincide with a staff trip to Waitangi for the weekend at the end of T2. This unit provided lots of opportunities to further inform our learning and awareness of the rich history of Aotearoa. In term we ran a unit called "Something Happened Here in Aotearoa" starting off with events around Waitangi, moving on to Something Happened Here in Tamaki Makaurau /Auckland" where students used the Schoolkit to explore events in the Auckland region. We ended the term with Something Happened Here in Henderson West Auckland where students used their learning from the Schoolkit resources and activities to explore the history of Henderson. Thank you for this awesome, well written and developed resource.”
