Did you Encounter Stories You Didn't Know Before?
yes
How effective was the student facing website (somethinghappenedhere.co.nz) for your learners?
How effective were the Teacher Support Materials in the School Kit Squad website?
How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content?
I was very apprehensive but also excited to unpack and decided where to take my students with this curriculum. This kit has given me confidence and most of all guidance to be able to go deeper and further than I would have alone. I will be continuing to use this kit next term and also next year. I hope the website stays open to use because it could be something we use often. I have been recommending this kit to anyone that wants to listen. So many do not know about it and I truly believe it is the best way to be able to learn about a new curriculum. I am in awe of those talented teachers and educators that have worked to put this fabulous resource together. It make me want to be a part of their team.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model?
We started with our local story. We discovered the kit content and our stories together as a class. We spent a lot of time here and really unpacked. My students interviewed teachers at our school that were part of or around during this event. My students asked if we could take a trip there to see it all even though they drive through often. The town has a museum so we have contacted the educator and will be visiting in early term 4. It has opened up so much for us and where we live and who we are, how we are shaped. So grateful to be able to go on this journey and I honestly would not have done this without the kit and our story to guide us.
How significant was the impact of this kit on your confidence in delivering the Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content?
How would you rate your knowledge of the new Aotearoa NZ histories curriculum content prior to using this kit?
What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community?
As we have not finished yet I do know of the impact but it was great to hear from whanau that students were going home and sharing knowledge which prompted some families to come in and want to share their stories with us too. I would like to go further with this and find out about the connections our whanau have in our actual area. Maybe photos and information could be collected and we could make our own story cards and website to share.
