How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Extreme motivation - grocery shopping takes on a whole new meaning. The roundabout is a pa site. The supermarket a brothel.....

“We are a rural primary school and this kit was used in a Year 4- Year 8 class. Mixed ages, abilities and ethnicities. Where to begin! As teachers, we choose a postcard of somewhere known to our tamariki - but not from a birds-eye view! The tamariki became hooked and wanted to know more and more. we researched about the town and the reasons why it had been chosen as part of this kit. 5 weeks later we were still finding out so much about our own area. The history, the cultures, the buildings, the professions, the schooling. The list goes on and on. An amazing asset for our school for years to come. Thankyou so much Schoolkit.”

“I found this kit to be a great resource for our local area. I would oofff preferred it not to rely so heavily on online as this made the resource difficult to use in my classroom. An off line option would of been a great resource or a full teacher guide that carried all the information required to follow the journey's”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It is jam-packed with knowledge that I was lacking. I am learning alongside the students, but that's ok. I feel more confident having resources already there.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Hardest thing for me is finding resources and stories about our local area. I like the model but not sure how easy it would be to replicate

“This resource is amazing. I have learnt so much from using the kit already. We have been working on a guided inquiry using one postcard first (Promises) and are going to continue next term. A fair bit of scaffolding is needed for our Year 5/6 students, but overall they are engaged and we are having some great discussions.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? In the future, I feel it would enhance my teaching. However, because our school has already an Inquiry system in place with ANZH topics, knowing what the resources are, would make future topics taught more supported.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I am already part of a team of teacher from our Rohe who are connecting with our local iwi to create such resources. This will be an ongoing project.

“The treasure chest of resources for the NZ Histories kit, was absolutely fantastic. However, find out what some of the resources were, was tricky and meaningless (especially to someone who hadn't lived that History). Though there were topics to look at, topics that were already established by the schools, were not obvious in the School Kit kete/treasure chest. The website is helpful, but more time is required to explore the topics... rather than only one term.”
