“Great Resource! Beautiful presentation and a well-thought-out kit. My students loved looking through the kit contents, which sparked intrigue. The website is very detailed and easy to navigate. I introduced this resource to a class of year 5,6,7 students, and there was a varying degree of reading ability among the group. Some of my lower readers found this very challenging and required a lot of teacher assistance. Is there a chance that audio could be added to the storylines and tasks? A video intro to hook students in - maybe a link from NZ onscreen to start the storyline or a short podcast to listen to. We also found that some of the tasks led students to pages that required a login to access. Overall, this kit is a beautiful resource and an amazing resource that will be cherished and embraced by many.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes absolutely, we could use the model to explore our local history by imitating the layout and presentation of each story to reflect an important local story.

“Despite there being an awesome website, it is frustrating that not all of the pages are finished. This severely limits the options available to students. When this is completed it will allow students much greater flexibility in exploring stories based on their interest and choice, instead of what is available. It is a beautifully presented physical kit (as school kit always is), and I will be able to use it for many years in my classroom. I'm grateful for such a great resource to support Aotearoa histories.”

“Was a little trickier than first thought. The pictures weren't always clear about what was happening. We stuck with the first column. Some of the pictures I clicked on weren't finished, they didn't have anything behind them. Obviously a work in progress. Felt some of the concepts were a little beyond my kids.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kids have been more motivated by this than what I thought they would be. We specifically started with those places closest to us, and they have been asking more questions about our area.

“It's been so cool to dive more into the Aotearoa Histories curriculum with my class. It was great to have somewhere to start, and a guide for my students to follow. We were able to cover more content than I would have been able to on my own. For my year 4- 5 class, the reading expected in this programme was quite challenging for many students, however, we were able to work through this as a class. Some of the challenges were a bit tricky or could be explained more thoroughly. When students have to convert the values of products using inflation calculators, but this doesn't talk about Pounds to dollars, and the date of the calculator doesnt go back as far as the dates they are asked to find. A little tweaking might be needed, but it would be amazing for this to be used across NZ by all schools, with more events continuing to be added. Sorry, I have forgotten to take any photos to this point!”

“We are a rural primary school and this kit was used in a Year 4- Year 8 class. Mixed ages, abilities and ethnicities. Where to begin! As teachers, we choose a postcard of somewhere known to our tamariki - but not from a birds-eye view! The tamariki became hooked and wanted to know more and more. we researched about the town and the reasons why it had been chosen as part of this kit. 5 weeks later we were still finding out so much about our own area. The history, the cultures, the buildings, the professions, the schooling. The list goes on and on. An amazing asset for our school for years to come. Thankyou so much Schoolkit.”

“I found this kit to be a great resource for our local area. I would oofff preferred it not to rely so heavily on online as this made the resource difficult to use in my classroom. An off line option would of been a great resource or a full teacher guide that carried all the information required to follow the journey's”
