How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The stories and the way it was presented were amazing and It has shown me that sometimes simple and effective is the way to go.

“The way the package is presented was incredible and the resources inside were as exciting for me as it was for the students. The visual support and content was clear and easy to follow, the online community was fantastic too. It was awesome to connect with some of the stories. We have only started and I can't wait to leap into this deeper in Term 4.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We were already trying to kick start this, but following a similar process has allowed us to run similar investigations in our own local area.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? In my role as Cultural Lead I have had some exciting PLD within our Kahui Ako, in fact that was where I discovered this kit. The activities we have been working on to explore our local history can be adapted easily to work along side this kit so it has given me another lense to look throught.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Some of the activities were a little confusing to start with but we modified them to make them meaningful to us.

“We tried the Protest unit. The students could relate to the recent protests at Parliament which was good for the link to the past. The students learnt some new places in NZ and enjoyed seeing what life was like back in the 70's through the videos. We have not had the time to complete all of the activities but hope to do some more in Term 4”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has open my eyes up to the variety of history we have here in Aoteraroa.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think this is something that we do well. This has just broaden it. Having access to the information in one place is amazing. It taught not only my students a lot about fascinating kiwi stories.

“This is a wonderful resource with a variety of different histories. I think I learnt as much from the kit as my students. There was so much there that we will look a diving into this again next year and covering places that we didn't get to this year. I had to really spend time working out how to deliver the kit and eventually came up with my own ideas on how to do this. I modified how I used the kit and directed my students to certain words and their pepeha. To begin it was very structured then slowly I gave the students more freedom to explore. I feel that for year 6 to begin with the histories that were chosen had to have some significance to them otherwise the interest would not be there until they opened their minds. Some of it was also too complex of ideas for my students to process at this time in their learning. I think that the material on offer in this resource is amazing and such a valuable resource. I would encourage anyone using it to take the time to work out how to adapt it to suit the learners in their class. A lot of the content is more suited to older students but with adaptation, it can work for students in years 5 and 6.”

“A fantastic resource that is well thought out, engaging and comprehensive. My Year 7 & 8's have loved utilising this resource, some have even asked if they can get their own kit for home... Because it is designed for Years 4-10 and comes with the coded curriculum wheel I have found it easy to differentiate based on the learning needs within my classroom.”
