What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It brought a lot of interest for students to know the stories we are exploring are relevant and shared perspectives that are appropriate and meaningful in the context of each topic. I think this really heightened the learning experience for our students.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I liked having some local content as it can be hard to find local content. We have a lot of schools/kura who are all trying to access the same resources.

“I am currently working through this kit and resources. I really like it as it provides variety for students and teachers. I did find it challenging to start with, trying to work out how to best use it but once I relaxed into it and took time to look at it, it did make more sense. That is one negative - it does take a considerable amount of time to go through it, digest it and then go through it again - to build up a good understanding about how to use it effectively for my class. Time is not always available but having said that, I like the breadth and scope of the tasks. I like the use of the pepeha as an introduction. I appreciate the types of resources that are available in this kit. Having access to so many quality resources is great.”

Local iwi are often under considerable demand for their expertise and perspectives, so having that knowledge that tangata whenua have contributed to this is excellent.
