How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Given me some more confidence - especially having access to resources to support. It was good to have some South Island content as well.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I liked having some local content as it can be hard to find local content. We have a lot of schools/kura who are all trying to access the same resources.

“I am currently working through this kit and resources. I really like it as it provides variety for students and teachers. I did find it challenging to start with, trying to work out how to best use it but once I relaxed into it and took time to look at it, it did make more sense. That is one negative - it does take a considerable amount of time to go through it, digest it and then go through it again - to build up a good understanding about how to use it effectively for my class. Time is not always available but having said that, I like the breadth and scope of the tasks. I like the use of the pepeha as an introduction. I appreciate the types of resources that are available in this kit. Having access to so many quality resources is great.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It's a first step to exploring our local backyard, which helped me to step off into the unknown. Very helpful

Local iwi are often under considerable demand for their expertise and perspectives, so having that knowledge that tangata whenua have contributed to this is excellent.

“Wonderful kit, full of interesting resources. We have used it as a springboard for planning, taking many of the ideas and content and incorporating them into our Social Studies curriculum redevelopment. We have also used some of the resources directly in lessons, with the links to the website.”

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? As stated before the author must have had great mana and respect of the Iwi for them to have shared their stories for this kit. Knowing that they were developed in collaboration is hugely significant in encouraging schools and teachers to build authentic relationships with their own iwi hāpu.

“The best resource ever to be produced. The fact that it aligns so well with the new Histories Curriculum makes integrating it into the classroom so much more easier and engaging.
