How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We normally go on our community walks at the beginning of the year, however we visited our local areas last week, learning all about local pūrākau (stories) of the area.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, infact we went on a trip to Orakau, Maniapoto and Rangiaowhia after using the cards that linked to our inquiry.

“We had the privilege of participating in the Aotearoa NZ Histories 23 and I can confidently say that it was a truly transformative experience for anyone with a passion for history. The resources were a shining example of how to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of historical knowledge. Students loved the website and the element of having to decipher the pepeha to engage in the location.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has given me more resources, and avenues to search from Primary sources, and to teach using local and everyday history as well as the "big events"

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes. we could use this model. and it would be great to develop a local website using this model - which could be an awesome collaboration between students, teachers, community and iwiw.

“It took a bit to get my head around this kit, but once I did it is full of promise and lots of applications beyond the original stories / images. Primary source learning is the focus with explicit links to DO section of ANZH / SS curriculum. Website has the beginning of awesomeness...still some under development. Watch this space!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel like I have a far richer understanding of the content now and any questions that children ask me, I can find the answers with the supportive material.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? There are some really cool connections with our local marae that has been interesting to connect with students and their links.

“There are excellent resources within the kit, the online resources are difficult to navigate and hard to share with the students (or I didn't know how too in an easier way). The student website was okay some of the links didn't work. There were some interesting stories used. I thought this would be a great resource to use with my ESOL students to support them with their learning as a work along side project with what they were doing in class, it wasn't. But the resources ended up being used in the classroom and supporting the classroom teachers.”

“Aotearoa NZ Histories 23 is an amazing resource. This term I really only scratched the surface of the amazing potential this resource has. Being new to the Aoterao NZ Histories Curriculum and with a limited time frame, I adapted the resource to suit the ability of my class. They each chose a postcard and given the accompanying artefacts and website, they retold the story of what happened in their location. We then shared this at assembly and many teachers commented on how much they learned about our NZ History. I will use this resource again and again as it's such exceptional quality.”
