“My class thoroughly enjoyed having a look through the cards. They were very engaging and could be used in a range of ways. We have yet to start using them as a whole class but a few of my learners took it upon themselves to do some research.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? highly motivated and we are fortunate that in my new role I can spring board off this resource to impact learning our local curriculum resource being launched Te Tai Whanake.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? As stated before the author must have had great mana and respect of the Iwi for them to have shared their stories for this kit. Knowing that they were developed in collaboration is hugely significant in encouraging schools and teachers to build authentic relationships with their own iwi hāpu.

“The best resource ever to be produced. The fact that it aligns so well with the new Histories Curriculum makes integrating it into the classroom so much more easier and engaging. The cross curricular opportunities are brilliant. The work done to get the stories and related activities to the resources shows the enormity and respect the sources had for the author of this kit.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I found it a bit hard to follow the teacher website. The student website was a bit of a challenge for lower learners to access as well. It would have been nice to have a bit more scaffolding / information on each site.

“I was blown away by the quality of this kit when it arrived! The students had a great time looking through all the pieces such as the blanket sample. It stimulated some amazing discussion and sharing of student's knowledge about these topics, which wasn't anticipated. It was really relevant to students as well as there were local stories from all over NZ.”
