How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? We have always promoted kindness and this kit linked in well. The class battery was great. The children were very happy to ensure we had a full battery at the end of each day.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? The children learned how what they say and do effects others around them. Our classroom promotes kindness and this kit linked in very well. It was great to watch the playlunch project and how children really didn't know others at all.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? I think one way is that I actually used the word respect more than usual. I complimented them for being respectful and this modelled it. - and as above

“I really liked the colourful aspect of this kit but didn't get the chance to fully implement it due to time constraints and not all children returning to school at the same time after lockdown. The playground project was completed it was really interesting though.... the who idea was explained to all the children in great detail, bit it was really interesting the children who had close friends gave each other stickers all the time so not a rainbow of colour in their booklets. The older children had a much better understanding and made sure they included lots of others in their play.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Most activities in the kit promoted The opportunity for in depth classroom discussions about behaviour that is desirable and got children think about the ways they contribute to the classroom culture.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? The most useful part for our class was the recharging station magnetic set as kids co-created criteria to use with it and then went on the look out for students displaying those criteria.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? They kids really liked using the poster to talk about relationship building and taking care of each other. The story promoted lots of discussion too.

“The relationship kit was great. I have 3 high needs boys who don’t have many social skills as they are different. This made sure that all my students spent 1-1 time with them getting to know them and include them in their activities. This then continued after their 1-1 time was done when choosing to play on the playground!”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? It has made the children more aware of others being on their own in the playground and what they can/should do to include them.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? It made the children more aware of people’s feelings and revised the classroom expectations of treating others following the children’s return to school coming back from Covid-19 lockdown. It was perfect timing.

“This kit couldn't have been more perfectly suited for post lockdown use. As our focus was around rebuilding relationships and managing our emotions. My class particularly enjoyed swapping stickers for the play lunch project and was great to see new friendships formed within the class. We also liked the charger however used it in a slightly different way. I have year 3/4 so gave them two options to use it they opted for when someone demonstrated an act of respect eg listening to someone else, helping others tidy, responding straight away they were congratulated by the class with positive affirmations and clapping and jumped on the charging station to add their name, once the whole class was on they were awarded something eg 5 mins golden time. A different way to use it however I loved seeing my students be so excited for each other. We also loved using the story cards and putting them into a grid. We couldn't believe the number of different stories we could create from the same cards which lead to a great discussion around how we all think differently and that it doesn't mean one person is wrong and the other right. Overall my class benefited and enjoyed completely this school kit.”

“Thank you for the fabulous Respectful Relationships kit. The timing was perfect to use after in Lockdown 2, on our arrival back to school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities and showed an improvement in understanding each other's emotions and how to be respectful. The activity list and the battery were so useful as well as the fun play lunch project. The large chart with the students and schoolyard was beneficial as the students identified what was happening and how the battery could be recharged. Feedback from the students: The Battery - It related to our behaviour plan. - Just like our Zones of regulation - The red zone is when someone is grumpy. - No one wants to be in the red zone - Everyone wants to be in the green part. - It is visual and colourful Playground Project - It was fun - Each time you got a sticker the chart got more colourful. - You get to play with more people, lots of different people. The Kit - Now we know how people are feeling. - Yes please to another kit. Recharge the battery activity I look forward to using another School Kit in the future. Thank you for providing this excellent service.”

“Respectful Relationships: Thanks for the amazing kit. Our tamariki enjoyed thinking about emotions, how colours made them feel and how our own actions can help others. The tamariki invented their own respectful colour monster. Still a few more things to explore! As a school, we made a pyramid illustrating our emotions and how we felt in lockdown.”
