In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? A lot more students had seen more inappropriate images and material than first thought and they acted if this was normal. (I used the kit with Year 9's)

“Overall a great tool. I used it with my Year 9's but will use again next year. Feedback was that the year 9's felt the Year 7/8's needed a lot of support on how to use digital technologies safer.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Things I thought were a given weren't e.g. talking with a stranger and them asking to meet you after school - common sense would be you wouldn't but I had a couple of students who said they would and they were adamant they would. They came up with excuses

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I teach majority of years 4s so I only choose which topics etc that I felt relevant to them. There were some that I felt were way to old for them.

How comfortable were you in approaching the more mature topics in this kit?

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Had some very mature answers - which was nice. Some of these came from students I wouldn't have thought would think like this. The students who had/played apps/games that weren't age appropriate and parents had signed them up!

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? We have frequently had discussions of this nature before, so we were not too surprised by the content of the discussions.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Again, we were not surprised but proud of how willing and open our students were to discuss experiences and learn new strategys.

“Digital safety is such an important part of education these days. We used the kit as part of our puberty unit where we looked at changing relationships, moods, values and feelings. The materials were easily accessible and the discussion starters meant that all children were involved regardless of their online experiences.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? We have frequently had discussions on this topic before, as as a class we have had to deal with some of these issues. Therefore we were not surprised by some of the content that came out.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? We were not surprised, but really proud of how open to discussions our students were, even if they were feeling slightly uncomfortable.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How easily they would make a decision without thinking fully. Also that they did know the correct response when we asked them to think carefully.

“Really enjoyed teaching this, found some of the cards a bit tricky with my Year 5's so didn't use them all. Loved the activities about decision making and had a very open and honest discussion around doing the right thing even though someone is watching - ring of Gyres lesson.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was comfortable with this and we have done Keeping Ourselves Safe and puberty. We great to have the resources and scaffolding. The scenario cards were great as we could use them to talk in a mature manner about the tricky topics

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How many parents do not even know what their children are doing online. When I asked the students if their parents knew they had certain accounts or that they were talking to strangers most said their parents didn’t even know

“My class really gained from the scenario cards and brainstorming all the good and bad choices. Some of the activities I found a bit confusing but we used the main resources in our own way. The voting marbles worked very well and we linked it to statistics which we were doing in maths this term and would graph the results of the votes in different ways.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Some of the cards I avoided as we were having really useful discussions. I didn't want to ruin that as I felt the responses would be more of a silly nature, especially from the year 8 boys.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? In past attempts to discuss online safety the class were quite flippant about it and didn't really engage. Through these activities they thought about the issues and their own experiences more deeply.

“My class really enjoyed the activities and the materials and equipment provided were so useful. The only activity that was a little young for my year 8 class was the ring of invisibility. The class played along a little bit but felt it was a bit youn g for them”
