In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I knew they faced a lot of drama online because I have to deal with it on a very regular basis. The perception of how they should handle it was eye opening. Many kids didn't really know what they should do.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Although some may have found the topics too mature, I think the kids deal with this level, if not worse, online. It was important to me that I was comfortable in my delivery so that the children didn't think they couldn't open up.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? My class really enjoyed the discussions around the Ring of Invisibility and then the 8 different versions of the right thing to do. It took a lot of discussion to realise that doing the funniest reaction was not usually the best outcome. This surprised me

“This kit is awesome, and totally worth the time. It was very relevant to the issues faced by my class, and the activities were engaging and all different enough to stay engaging for the whole unit. My class particularly enjoyed the discussions around finding the wisest choice. They started with ";teacher pleasing"; responses, but always broke this down to what they would actually do in situations. It gave a huge insight into their thinking.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? We had a few issues earlier in the year, and it made me realize they were more singular incidents than an everyone is doing it situation. The main issues with my team were around commenting online.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Those allowed to sign up to apps despite being under 13 years. Approved by parents. Mis- stating ages at restaurants and movies to get in cheaper

“A great unit. Well thought out and sensitively handled. Great resources and links for the teacher teaching the unit. A unit we will use over and over again and especially important to refresh at the beginning of the year . Thank you for giving us a lengthened amount of time for this unit as it needed to be developed well. Great range of discussion cards. Led to great discussions. very thought provoking for students in a non-threatening way. Thank you for this resource.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I thought my students may have been less sensible than they are! They are very aware and well informed. I am also impressed with how much parents have educated their children. This is most affirming.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I am fine with the content. What I found very hard was figuring out what the actual intent from the lesson was. I had the download but couldn't quite follow the lesson structure / outline / outcomes. I got there but it took me way longer to make my plans

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? My class were very able to talk and share when we were participating in activities. They liked explaining boundaries.

“I enjoyed parts of this kit. My class did benefit from the lessons and discussions were robust and positive. I found the student learning outcomes difficult to decipher - got there in the end.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was surprised by some of the responses to the kit based on gender. I thought it would be tjlhe girls that found some of this harder then the boys, bilut this was not the case.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was nervous about approaching this content with my students, but the way that the kit had been put together made addressing these issues so much easier. The more that we can talk about what is okay and what is not, the easier talking about these issues

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised by how much students were prepared to share. My students were very open and honest and this led to some valuable teaching moments.

“This is such an important and increasingly more important topic as technology changes at speed, providing more variety of platforms for our students to access. The resources were hands on and practical, providing a range of talking points. Thanks, a great kit!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was aware that online safety was not discussed in many homes. I was pleased to find out that off line boundaries were strictly monitored.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The openness of discussions and the ability to explain their thoughts around safety. Even those that had little import and guidance from home had a good sense of how to keep themselves safe.

“The discussions around online and offline safety has become an every day discussion in class. Feedback from families around discussions at home has been positive. Children had an understanding of what was ok but when discussing this with caregivers and parents they discovered expectations were different.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? It was expected that students have found negativity online but I didn’t realise that 95% of the class at this age have social media! Their parents are blinded by the new crazes and now their caregivers are aware of what these sites do to young kids.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How honest they were about their interactions and experiences.

“We have finally finished this kit and wow... the students have exceeded my expectations and the learning outcomes of the kit. They have extended their learning to learning more about Digital Behaviours around the world; which leads to mental harm in young people today. They then explored the various non-profit organisations that help youth today with depression and mental problems due to social media and digital relationships. All in all, I’m grateful that this kit is timely - from the lockdowns and the online learning going on, the students reflected and gave honest opinions about how they behave online.”
