In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was surprised by some of the responses to the kit based on gender. I thought it would be tjlhe girls that found some of this harder then the boys, bilut this was not the case.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was nervous about approaching this content with my students, but the way that the kit had been put together made addressing these issues so much easier. The more that we can talk about what is okay and what is not, the easier talking about these issues

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised by how much students were prepared to share. My students were very open and honest and this led to some valuable teaching moments.

“This is such an important and increasingly more important topic as technology changes at speed, providing more variety of platforms for our students to access. The resources were hands on and practical, providing a range of talking points. Thanks, a great kit!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I thought my students may have been less sensible than they are! They are very aware and well informed. I am also impressed with how much parents have educated their children. This is most affirming.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I am fine with the content. What I found very hard was figuring out what the actual intent from the lesson was. I had the download but couldn't quite follow the lesson structure / outline / outcomes. I got there but it took me way longer to make my plans

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? My class were very able to talk and share when we were participating in activities. They liked explaining boundaries.

“I enjoyed parts of this kit. My class did benefit from the lessons and discussions were robust and positive. I found the student learning outcomes difficult to decipher - got there in the end.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? It was expected that students have found negativity online but I didn’t realise that 95% of the class at this age have social media! Their parents are blinded by the new crazes and now their caregivers are aware of what these sites do to young kids.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How honest they were about their interactions and experiences.

“We have finally finished this kit and wow... the students have exceeded my expectations and the learning outcomes of the kit. They have extended their learning to learning more about Digital Behaviours around the world; which leads to mental harm in young people today. They then explored the various non-profit organisations that help youth today with depression and mental problems due to social media and digital relationships. All in all, I’m grateful that this kit is timely - from the lockdowns and the online learning going on, the students reflected and gave honest opinions about how they behave online.”

Due to some very good relationships in our learning space, and the fact that students have been with the teachers for two or three years meant they have been more open even before this kit. In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I have had many conversations with my class prior to teaching this kit so I wasn't surprised with some of the answers. However, more students than I thought are using online platforms from when I asked them previously earlier in the year.

“This was my first time using the school kit and I am impressed! It came to me promptly and it was super easy to download the resources and instructions that go along with it. I love how interactive the kit is and it is really relevant.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Although one suspected that students were exposed and confronted by a range of issues it was in a sense eye opening that frequency was often and that most students did not really think some content they exposed to was harmful.

“Our students really found this kit helpful and it is perfectly aimed at our year 7 and 8 students. Students loved that they could have their say using the marbles.”
