What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? It was nice to have a structure that provided a way for the class to talk more openly - we had some honest conversations.

“Great resource - really got the class thinking about some of the issues. We're having ongoing issues with a few kids who definitely have an offline v online perspective, and this has been a very helpful tool. The plan is to expand this next year to the remainder of our senior classes and make it part of our programme every year.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The maturity of some students when faced with challenging situations.

“Yet another amazing School Kit, and so relevant for my students. We're still working through the kit but have had so many great discussions already and really opened students eyes about the potential dangers online, as well as how to stay safe. It made me very proud to hear of situations where my students made really good choices in response to the online behaviour of others, e.g. blocking accounts, leaving game chats when they felt uncomfortable with the conversation. Thanks School Kit!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? My perceptions did not change - I was already quite aware of what my students are exposed to. I was surprised however at how little parents are monitoring what happens online at home.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit The one 'tricky' card I had was the period scenario but after teaching a positive puberty unit at the beginning of this year, it was a very relevant situation and a good discussion point for boys to understand the privacy around this issues. I did not use

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How they thought they were allowed to use Tiktok, snapchat, instagram etc and had no knowledge of the age restrictions placed on these platforms - and neither did their parents.

“This kit has been amazing for tackling very real issues in the online word of my Years 5-6 students. It has been particularly topical with the increase of exposure to devices as a result of the lockdown and home learning earlier this year.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their openess and willingness to share experiences.

“I felt this unit of work was more appropriate for Years 6-8, as some of the content is over the head of junior students. We had a lot of discussion around online behavior and the impacts of porngraphy/online predators on them. My school has decided to use this unit for the Years 6-8 and have shared the content with the community”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? As I was working with small groups (one of two mainly) the perceptions could not be accessed in their class.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Once again this was easier for me as sometimes I only had to talk to one or two students at a time. My role as Pastoral Care Worker involves these conversations regularly so comfort level was normally no issue.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The students were keen to listen and discuss their ideas and about what they had heard other kids do.

“I am the Pastoral Care Worker and work with most of my students individually or small groups. I found it easy to adapt this programme to small groups. Some of the scenarios were very good talking starter points when kids came over to my room in an angry frustrated state after having issues with friends online. This kit is well prepared and presented, well done!”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? their inability to focus and involve themselves sensibly in a group discussion.

“Due to having a rather immature group of year 7&;8's, the kit required a lot of talk and conversation and not much hands on doing activities etc which would have served my class a lot better. I had to stop using it and move on to something else because the kids got bored and lost focus quite quickly.”

“This kit was different than what I thought it would be. It opened my year 7's eyes to the amount of choices they have and also about making assumptions.”
