In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They are more concerned with getting embarrassed than being in a harmful situation. This surprised me.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I realised that a small portion of my class behaves in exactly the same way online and offline. They come from homes with two parents. The students that have the most trouble with online and offline behavior come from families with split parents and mixed

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit No worries. I teach sexuality and have set up safe environments for my kids to talk about anything they need to, so there weren't any topics that came up that I haven't crossed in my time teaching this age group.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The amount of students in my class that have no supervision or accountability for their phone use.

“This couldn't have been more appropriate for my class. With increased usage of social media and contact during covid, my students have experimented in a variety of activities that they are starting to realise they shouldn't have. All the learning from this kit helped us reflect and make decisions personally and as a group about how we behave and will react to behaviors offline and online.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? It was surprising how many students knew what they were not meant to be on and still went on. Also how a lot of them seem to have consent from their parents!

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their willingness to open and talk about their online experiences. Also how naive the students are about cybersafety, not being aware/ or caring about who they are talking/interacting with in chat rooms.

“My students thoroughly enjoyed this unit. So many children opened up about their experiences online. The black and white pebble system was a great way for them to respond in a non threatening way.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They get a lot more exposure that I thought. They are influenced lots by what it cool and popular. Lots of parents have good intentions but kids stumble across negative content.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I became aware of the greater diversity of online areas that students are playing/exploring outside of school. I wonder how many parents are aware of what their children are doing online at home.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The range of online activities they participate in. For example, personal online servers.

“We found that the Safer Digital Behaviours Kit complemented the work that we have done using Netsafe resources. I think this kit would be best suited to being used at the start of the school year with continued use throughout. The students in my Year 7 &; 8 class had some great discussions in the 'Finding the wisest response - decision maker' activity.”
