In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? The parental monitoring of the children's interactions on-line were varied with a number given free rein to access sites listed as R13. This made me aware of the need to regularly remind the children that what they post is 'out there' and available to all

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? See above

“The Safer Digital Behaviours: Keep It Inline Kit was very timely for my Year 7s. It tied in exceptionally well with other learning areas and concepts that I was teaching as well as our school values. Using the voting marbles was an interactive way to assess students' thoughts, opinions and understandings. Lots of very in depth discussions were held because of the toughts that this kid provoked.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their reasoning for associating emotions to scenarios was surprising. As an adult it is easy to assume how someone might feel in certain situations, but that doesn't mean that that is what that person will be feeling.

“I loved using the Safer Digital Behaviours kit with my class! The resources made it easy to talk about online and offline scenarios, which were easy to tailor to class. The Marble Voting Box is a valuable class resource, and I've used it outside of the Kit as well! The kit linked in well with our school topic of Empathy - looking at the feelings of others and not making judgments based on our own feelings.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? There were a number of children that had not had issues online but all had heard about what could go wrong. Some struggled to see what was wrong but when the discussions were held using the scenario cards they were able to see it from a different perspect

“The children really enjoyed talking about this topic and completing the activities that went with it. The scenarios allowed them to think about it in certain situations. This provide some great discussions. The voting was a good way to promote engagment as they felt comfortable to be able to truely express their thoughts.”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I teach a mixture of year 3 and 4 children so some of the content in this kit I didn't feel were appropriate for my year 3 children. The part about porn I didn't really cover as I knew the content would be over their head.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Some of the new words we learnt, the children wanted to learn more about the meanings.

“Some good content although I felt some were too advanced for my year 3 students as I teach a mixture of year 3 and 4. Overall, I think this would cater more to a senior class (year 5 and above).”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was very ignorant of how and what content is being shared and explored by kids the same age as my students (years 4 to 6). This kit gave me insight into the struggles our kids have both at a national level as well as within my own class.

Most of them were relevant and appropriate. Some conversations were mildly uncomfortable but the kids engaged sensibly for the most part.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The level of critical thinking and understanding of the feelings of others was surprising. I have a class with alot of high behaviour needs students that often show little empathy towards others. However in the context of the games in this kit they were a

“I personally enjoyed this kit as it allowed me to have structured discussions about these issues with my class (critical discussion is my preferred mode of approaching these sorts of topics). The kids were able to either learn how to critically reflect on an issue or hone the abilities they already have. The kids were particularly interested in the different boundaries that exist in different household.”
