It was good resource. however, it would be good to consider other school that do not have the resources or means to bring the tamariki to a beach.

This was an engaging kit. Children were hooked from the start and loved choosing their turtle to track and follow. Each child treasured their gloves and wanted to clean up the rubbish to protect the turtles whenever possible.

The kit has strengthened our class culture by making whenua ora a shared responsibility. Students are more conscious of how their actions affect the environment, and they now take initiative in caring for our outdoor spaces.

My Yr2 students loved the Diary of a Turtle 25. Being able to 'adopt' a class turtle was a huge excitment and the students were eager to find out where out turtle had travelled each day. This learning extended where we learnt all about our turtle and then linked this to many other curriculum areas. Each day the class leader was able to choose a new turtle to look at. We looked at location, size, turtle type. Learning then extended into learning about the ocean and the impact, that if our rubbish gets into the ocean, has on sealife. Kids took this part very seriously as they had a strong connection to the sealife that we had learnt about. Over all it has been a great learning topic and my students have learnt a lot.

We loved doing the Diary of a Turtle, it sparked a lot of interest at home as well, and parents got into it with the kids as well. Turtle tracking and stories became an absolute highlight. It worked well with the local curriculum and the local legends, and the story of Ihenga the exporer from Maketu on the ocean past the rivers and lakes, to Rotorua from the local curriculum was highighted as a way to connect our gutters, creeks, lakes and rivers to the sea. The gloves and rubbish bags were extremely well recieved. We did a lot of collaborative planning for the activities. That made it a very sequenced and paced study for our Science.
