Diary of a Turtle helped my students better understand the impact plastic waste can have on marine life. Agree
Our students loved being able to choose a turtle to track. It took them around the ocean and enabled lots of language and geography learning. They loved our visit to Mission Bay beach where they got hands on with the beach clean up. The gloves were a huge hit! We took our rubbish back to school where it was sorted. The poster was extremely useful to help understand the different types of rubbish. Everyone had a look around the school for plastic bearing a triangle and a number.

We had a very busy term. We managed to fit in our Turtle kit - and the kids loved it. They loved the fact they got to track a turtle (Miso Speedy). They learnt about how our rubbish can affect our sea life, and what we can do to help prevent this happening. We also learnt about turtles, and their environment. We made an acrostic poem, and did some art with a mosaic shell. Thank you for supplying such a great resource.

This provided huge excitement for our learners during our ocean unit of learning! We used the kit to supplement our learning about tides, ocean animals and how plastic affects animals.

My class have been really engaged and invested in the Diary of a Turtle kit. We have tracked our turtle every could of days and done some neat information report writing about Sea Turtles. Whenever a "message" arrived about our turtle we were very excited. As our term inquiry was about Sustainability and Kaitiaki it worked in very well with the rubbish clean up and relating everything back to being guardians of our environment.

Our class had been reading the Hannah Gold novel "Turtle Moon" and were really interested in the conserving of turtles and how we can help them. Seeing this kit was an awesome extension for the students and we have loved being part of the sea cleaners! The writing tasks from the text were so popular! The students wrote from the mind of "Buddy the turtle" which is the turtle we chose to track.

This activity is great to implement how even small actions can make a big difference. I changed the focus slightly as we have been having a big problem with rubbish around our school. We read the story "Little Turtle and the changing sea" and discuss what will happen with our rubbish and what could we do to make a change. Every week children used their gloves to go round and collect rubbish around our school community and learnt about different types of rubbish and what we could do with it e.g. recycle, reuse or bin it. It was a great topic to integrate into writing, reading and maths. This reduced the amount of rubbish around and it also made others in the school care for our environment and reduce the rubbish.

This was a fantastic unit that engaged my class and suited our term inquiry topic as we were looking at reduce, reuse, recycle as part of our wearable arts.
