Which kit components were the most impactful and why? First the tracking of the turtle as it made it very real for the children and they could follow it daily to see what was happening. Secondly the Clean up we did at the end. It made the children talk about the impact their own action have on their school environment.

How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? Our children still talk about how much litter we collected and what would have happened if we hadn't done so. They are aware of the drains beside our play/eating area and how we need to ensure rubbish doesn't go down the drain and into the water ways.

This was a very cool kit that had our kids hooked from the beginning. They loved tracking their turtle, and we were able to base a lot of learning around this (Literacy, maths, art). We finished this about 3 months ago and the children still mention it now. The 'clean up' was completed very locally (as we have 5-7 year olds) but this still had a big impact on the children and we have seen a positive roll-on effect since. This was an awesome kit and I totally recommend it.

How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? It made them really think about it and it was good to connect it to the turtle. My kids will bring me pieces of rubbish now that they find outside to then put it in the bin.

My class was super engaged and loved taking part in it. They would remind me everyday to check on our turtle. They loved doing the art project and absolutely loved going out into our school to collect rubbish and look at the data we had collected. Overall was amazing and I really loved the videos and the step by step process so that the teaching was true and proper!

This school kit prompted thoughtful conversations and discussion across our classes. It provided an opportunity for my class to look after our land acround us and learn why it is important that we clean up rubbish. The activities provided opportunities for across the curriculum with my students particularly engaged in the literacy and art activities. My class particularly loved writing informative pieces on turtles and then making the shell of a turtle using recycled newspaper to paper mache. Another class in our hub did turtle art using egg cartons. Our students started a competition across our hub to see which class could collect the most rubbish- I don't think our playgrounds and classrooms have looked any cleaner. From this school kit, our hub has commited to doing one clean up each term at our local park.

This was a great topic for my Year 1 children. They thoroughly enjoyed tracking our turtle, Tortellini, every day and even got their families involved. We recorded her distances and change of direction by adding masking tape and turtle images to our wondows. There were many discussions about why she travelled so far some days and not many kms other days. We enjoyed the postcard messages. We read many books about turtles and wrote reports, descriptions and imaginative stories. We looked at the river that flows through our town and down to the sea and collected rubbish on our school grounds, near that river. The children loved their gloves and we spent all afternoon sorting and counting. I wish you had many more of these kits available for juniors. Ideally I would love one for every term.

This kit was awesome. My year one class loved tracking their sea turtle, and the messages that were provided in the kit helped the children to relate what we were doing to their own lives.
