What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? that people do actually care and value them

“We got this kit to support the big personalities within the class and the not so big personalities. We adapted a few activities to make them work for us and learners enjoyed the check in tokens but in the end it was the daily check in without tokens that has still stuck. We chose several activities but adapted them to the need of the group on the day, and as always in a Y7/8 class, time to get through things was an issue BUT we are continuing to grow our learning through several resources that support learning in this area. This it is not a once off kind of kit - we have dived into it when there is need and then parked it as needed.”

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Some of them will be more aware of pro-social behaviours, and how strengths can be viewed as weaknesses and vice versa.

“I loved the idea of this kit, but I'm not sure the outcome warranted the time and effort involved. The instructions felt out of order with their layout, and the 'homework' element meant a third of the class weren't able to fully and effectively participate (due to their not completing the Caption a story task - they were given ample time and reminding of due date). The inside of the daily check-in box was either missing or I accidentally threw it away without realising what it was, but I realised I wasn't going to have the time in an already crammed schedule to implement it often enough to make the exercise worthwhile. The poetry exercise was facilitated by one of my colleagues while I was released from class, and it appears to have gone well. I'm not sure how much it has affected their behaviour. I thought the Rise and Shine Wall would be a great tool for the students, but I don't think they have used it at all. I think perhaps if I set this lesson up during the first few weeks of school it might have been more effective. We weren't able to complete the staistical investigation or watch the videos due to lack of time and/or the content not fitting with my school's Scope and sequence.”

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? A great kit to go back to and learn about resolving conflicts, showing empathy, and being resilient, while having self esteem.

“This kit was a great way to look into relationship building and self esteem building. There were some good conversations had in class and it linked really well into work we were doing around Cybersafety.”

We have wellbeing models active in our class, including te whare tapa wha and circle time, but this kit has provided a grounding that we can return to when issues arise.
