How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? The students took a while to understand the elimination process, but doing one together as a model gave them a structure to follow. It was great having the video of the vet revealing the actual diagnosis as it gave a sense of authenticity.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The students were very motivated to come to our Wednesday afternoon sessions - 7 sessions (1.5 hours each). Obviously word of mouth had spread, as those that had opted in to Kapahaka wanted to join our Vet School sessions. I have been trying to add some photos, but couldn't get them to drag or upload into the box below!
“Story Vets was run collaboratively with another teacher (both of us had a kit), as we were responsible for a mix of students from three classes (due to the timeslot being used as an opt in for our Kapahaka performance team). This was an extremely motivating topic, as most of the students had their own pets and had been to a vet with their pet before. We introduced real life vet experiences alongside the ones given in the Vet School Kit. Tying in aspects such as TPR for humans as well, gave the students a good insight into their own health and vital signs. The unit became bigger than we actually anticipated (which was fabulous!!), as we found some extra texts etc to incorporate into the unit. Using the fairy tales was also a great way to hook in the students, incorporating the unplugged coding.”

“It was a fun and engaging Kit. The resources supplied were realistic and kids enjoyed manipulating them. I did find it took a lot of brain power to get my head around all the components. Despite the links sheet for some reason I struggled a bit with this one.”

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Every student really enjoyed it and parents have said their kids have come home each day non stop talking about the new skills they've learnt and how they have been diagnosing different problems with animals.
“Such a cool resource for the kids, they really enjoyed using it and loved the creativity it involved! It peaked their interest in looking after animals and investigating what was wrong with them.”

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? My class were always excited to move into each new activity/learning opportunity. They were fully engaged. The video I have uploaded is of my class working in groups discussing what a Vet does and what the differences and similarities of a Vet and Doctro are.
“The introduction to this kit was excellent. Using four simple known Fairy Tales to introduce the characters and animals they would diagnose later on was very clever. This was a great way of drawing my class into this kit. The resources provided were amazing and easy to follow and use. The teacher planning sheet was detailed and almost step-by-step. Thank you for creating such a wonderful learning experience for my class. I will reuse this in the future.”

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The kids have really enjoyed it and it has fed into our whole class reading topics too, with kids requesting we learn about Huia, Hokioi and Moa, amongst other birds.

“A brilliant concept to engage students with all sorts of background knowledge. Our St John Cadets shone out with their TPR knowledge as did our compute needs with the unplugged coding. Our rural community and farming kids were really in tune with the entire topic.”
