We had a student-teacher in Room 7 who did this with a group of students. The students thoroughly enjoyed measuring and were engaged through the whole process. We needed to continue with the kit but got very busy the start of this term. Thank you School kit for the opportunity to take part in this awesome learning opportunity.

Room 13 at Tirimoana really enjoyed the Walk the Length of NZ kit. They were engaged throughout and were super excited to test out the different range of pedometers and add up all their combined steps. Great learning involved across a range of curriculum areas. Thanks so much School Kit!

Our students found this kit engaging and fun. It became quite competitive which appealed to a number of students and the conversion tasks were a great way to consolidate learning from earlier in the year.

The look on our kids faces and their excitement when they saw all the step meters. They were so motivated to move and accumulate steps. They thought about when the best time to do it was and with the cross country planned, it was sorted! The each approached whoever they knew who had a step meter and warned them that they needed to make that day their most active. They were so motivated that day that they even wanted to deliver a note to another teacher as a whole class so they could all get the extra steps. So cool! Thanks for an amazing resource.

This kit has been a fantastic resource for my students. I used it with a class of Year 3's so dialled it back a little bit from what the teacher guide suggests but there was some fantastic learning that came out of it. I was shocked by how handing over the learning to the kids, the amazing things they came up with. One lesson that stood out to me in particular was the initial one where I gave all the students the chance to have a play with each of the pieces of equipment and we discussed how we can ensure we collate the steps fairly to ensure it was an accurate representation of the amount of steps we took. It was some of the best contextual learning my students have been a part of this year. Once again a really fabulous schoolkit with lots of professional learning for myself but especially academic learning for my students. Thankyou so much!

This kit really encouraged us to move! In the lead up to our day we realised that there were periods of inactivity in our day that we could change. So together we worked out a new timetable to allow for more movement breaks. The measurement was fantastic! Good fun and great learning about accuracy with heaps of practical tasks. We walked every day using our counters. We took our buddy class with us too. We had a great day of walking with parents, grandparents and the rest of the school joining us for various times in the day. We have become far more aware of our need to move and our maths brains got a great workout too!
