“Thank you so much for another amazing kit. All of the kids were completely into testing out all of the stepping methods and learnt a lot about distance and how far it is to the top of the North Island. It was great to challenge the kids with maths and tracking their steps. We didn’t manage to walk the length in 24 hours unfortunately.”
“We are still to do our kit, as with the delay I had to reshuffle and couldn't quite get it in before the end of last term. It is scheduled in for Wk 7, which will work in well with our athletics training. I will fill keep this email and fill out the form for you before the end of the term :-)”

1112 km total. average 8 km each. Average 10 000 steps each.
“This was a lot of fun, combining health with maths and technology. The kids loved trying out the pedometers and had to think of ways to test their validity. The activity of making the trundle wheels was very successful, as it made the learning very relevant. They needed to learn how to work diamater x pi backwards (inverse operation), so they could make a circle with the circumference of 100 cm. My year fives figured out that we need to divide 100 by pi to give us the diameter we need for our circles. The walk was fun - 5 classes, plus parents and dogs along the Clutha River bank. Thanks very much School Kit and sponsors!”

“Wow! What an amazing kit. We loved working with pedemeters and experimenting to see what type of pedometer was best for us to use. We also really, really liked having an 'outdoor' day so that we could run around lots and do lots of steps. We learnt a lot of new skills and also practiced some other skills like sharing, cooperative learning and teamwork.
I very much appreciated how much this kit involved our whanau and community. We had more than 30 people get on board with our steps, which really helped to bump our number up. As a small rural school, with a small class (22 kids), I was unsure whether the kids would manage to achieve their goal or not... getting parents, family members, friends, random community members on board was awesome - and they were very excited about it too. I had parents messaging me throughout the day to tell me their step progress.
Thank you so much for providing such an interesting kit and the opportunity for our whanau and community to help and support our class in a unique way.”

2 432 854, this was a combined effort of three y3/4 classes at the school, with the help of the rest of the Y1-13 classes, families and friends
“The children enjoyed trialling the pedometers, and had lots of ideas of how to incorporate fitness and activities to accumulate steps. The map that was included, with detours was a great resource. The maths side of it was too tricky for most of our Y3/4 children, but we adapted it and problem solved together. We didn't make the metre wheel.”

“I found the pack to be fun and filled with many activities but I felt as though the instructions were not clear and the sheet with the activities didn't have clear instructions or guidelines as to what I was teaching the children exactly.”

“We had so much fun! They loved the padometers and the flashing shoe laces were such a good incentive. Even though the day we planned was not as fine we made it with 2 km to spare! Being a great kit to look at estimating and averages. The poster was a great help in helping us work out the maths too.”
