In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Found we didn't give it the time and attention it required for it to have been very effective. COVID really threw everything for a spin as well as school requirements.

“This was a great idea but found it challenging as the teacher trying to manage each different aspect of the the testing. I think maybe if there were 4 tests it would have been great and we could've gone in-depth a lot more but understandably no one wants to plan a trip to a stream for a quick visit.”

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? Doing some soil samples and bug hunts around our school. Changing the context to our native trees and looking at the health of them and indicators. Seeing what we could do with bees and the health of them.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It was really cool to talk about our local area in regards to water, it developed our local curriculum knowledge. We were able to talk about the cultural significance of local waterways and how and how they connected with their environment.

“Our class really enjoyed this, we were late in getting started with other topics going on it our team. The unit came alive when we got to do a bug study with a lady from ECAN, this expert knowledge provided a great base to continue the unit. It had a wide variety of experience that connected with different learners, passions and interests.”

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Aotearoa is surrounded by wai. Different communities rely on water in many different ways. It is an important food source and recreational play ground. Needs to be respected

“great kit with useful equipment. this was very timely for our school because we had several class rooms who were working down in our school ";gorge"; area to improve the area, including the Maketehinu stream that runs through this area. The kit allowed students to test water quality of the stream and learn more about ways in which they could contribute to improving the quality of the water.”

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Our tamariki have a very strong cultural understanding of the significance of wai and this kit helped to deepen a western scientific perspective of water.

“Nui te mihi ki a koutou katoa o te whānau School Kit me Dairy NZ Schools. Our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed all that this kit had to offer and the learning that came with it. As a kaiako I will definately use it again in future! Mauri Ora, Ngā Pihipihi me Ngā Mahuri o Te Kura o Te Teko.”
