In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? That water is a gift and Taonga and should be treasured and looked after. The test helped to reinforce this in my class and allowed them to make judgements on if we as a country were doing enough to protect it.

“This was a great idea and the class enjoyed a releveant learning task with authentic context relating back to the communites water quality. It was very helpful to have a complete set sent as it minimized extra work on myself and the other teachers that recieved a kit. Plus its a good excuse for a small school trip.”

“We really enjoyed completing a authentic learning tasks that identified real concerns in the community in water quality. It was fantastic to have a number of teachers and classes involved here at Chisnallwood. And the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Not often do we get to leave school grounds for learning opportunities.”

“This was a very engaging way to get smaller schools testing water quality. I really liked the water proof invertebrate identification chart. I liked the idea of the water clarity black disc but unfortunatley we dropped ours and couldn't relocate it. Perhaps including pH strips would be a good idea too.”

“This kit was excellent for my students. We had already been looking at our local waterway, and had done some testing, however this kit provided clear instructions and enough. activities so that my small class of 11 could do activities in pairs. We found different waterways, most were unsuitable to test, as the gradient of the banks were too steep. We eventually found a place that we could test, and the tamariki did a great job.”

This helped the children to understand the significance of this. As well as why water is such an important part of their pepeha.

“Our students enjoyed the variety of activities in this kit. It was easy to follow and had a clear pathway to the stream visit and analysis of data. highlights for our students were the mini Olympics and learning how to measure accurately, and the actual visit. We also enjoyed the idea of the 'dry run' at school, and the clear explanation of how to complete each card.”
