In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We had being doing this as part of our Enviroschools learning but this aspect of the kit could be further developed.

“An excellent opportunity to explore our local environment. It was a worthwhile day spent exploring this stream. The students benefitted from having practiced the tasks before visiting the stream as it exciting being outside. This is an awesome kit and I would highly recommend giving it a go. I will definitely be using it on a regular basis at a variety of locations with a wide range of groups from within the school.”

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? The students used the equipment however because of the time- season Winter, of testing the stream, it was running high. This had Health and Safety problems as it was too dangerous to carry out all tests.

“This project has been a great resource however the timing is well off. The winter is not the ideal time to do testing and maybe summer could be better for accessing the stream better to gain valid tests completed. We actually dropped our evidence- tablet into the stream which upset my students immensely. So a new session will be drawn up and we will eventually submit our findings.”

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This was not an area of the kit that we focussed on in great detail. Our classes have already well developed mihi and understanding of this, so we chose to focus more on the scientific elements.

“This was a fabulous kit and a timely opportunity to take the children on a school trip given they have missed out on so much this year as a result of Covid-19. Standing on the banks of the stream it was great to see the engagement of the children. We were fortunate to have 2 kits in our school so our Year 7&;8 children worked alongside our Year 5&;6 children, and it was great to see them working together and showing leadership.”
