In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Ko au te Awa, ko te Awa ko au. I am the river and the river is me. We looked at how the Waikato was important to Maaori in the past, present and future. We looked at it through the lens of Kaitiakitanga - guardianship.
We have been studying the SDG's and this kit related very well to goal 6 - Clean water and sanitation. Also we had been looking at the Waikato River and how its use has changed over time. Think Global - Act Local.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We looked at a local waterway and the kids realise we are the kaitake of this waterway and we need to be mindful what is put into the water to sustain life.
The kit was well put together and easy for the students to use. The students enjoyed the different experiments and it tied in well with our theme for the term- Kaitiakitanga and the sustainable development goals, one of which is clean water for all and looking after our natural resources. Thank you

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This was not a real focus for us with this kit. We did discuss the importance of water for the Maori in the area with regards to where they settled.
We loved the interactive kit and it was great to link the learning to real lkife of the famring children from our school. Some of the tasks were a little difficult to complete because of the time of the year we did it. During winter it was tough for the kids to get into the ewater and take particular measurements, especially down in the South Island.

Loved it! The kids were so engaged throughout the whole process. As an added bonus it fit in so well with our concept 'change' and we were able to get down to the stream in our gully and test the water down there.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It deepened the knowledge that we had been learning already. our unit sharing the planet fit in so well with the water testing as we were able to link how the Maori used and looked after water in comparison to how people use and look after it now.
The water testing kit was a great success, children loved the range of testing equipment and the results. We completed our testing in Lake Pupuke so couldn't use the water speed test but we had fun using the others. Looking forward to using it again next year with a new group of children.
