“this is such a fantastic resource. We used it for pre data for our Wetland area so that when we do the end data we are able to compare the before and after to see the usefulness of our wetland. We will continue using this kit throughout our wetland design to have a range of data for the kids to look at and see where we need to go next.”

We visited a stream that local iwi are already working on with a group of students so it was great to feed into that too. We were able to make connections to the learning that students were doing at the local puna.

“An awesome kit that really empowered the students to be scientists! We also borrowed a kit from our local Mountains to Sea team and we were able to compare the different equipment which was great. The children loved getting hands on and it has helped to support our maths and literacy program too!”

The Dairy NZ Water Testing Kit proved to be a great tool in the teaching of Kiatiakitanga, Te Ao Maori, science, sustainability, and many other curriculum areas. Students were empowered to inquire, be innovative, and curious about their local awa. Akonga were fully engaged from the start of the unit and absolutely loved the stream visit and performing the tests. This kit linked well with our term theme of Kiatiakitanga which we are currently exploring.”

“This kit had some very cool tools. It required a lot of preloading of vocabulary and techniques which was informative but also took some time away from our programme. The kids enjoyed the practical aspect but in a large hub, it meant that some kids had no opportunity to do some of the tasks (too many kids, not enough time/space).”
