What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? I have been careful to look after the resources and it can all be used again. The need for a clean up of the area came up from this, looking at the surrounding area and identifying risks for the health of the stream would be a good next step.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It linked in beautifully with the local legend of one of our school houses and the students grew an appreciation from there.
A whole unit of amazing resources with everything provided - thank you so much! The instructions were easy for students to follow and the quality/toughness of the resources to withstand a day at the stream was most appreciated. So many questions and learning opportunities arose from this kit and a chance to become more familiar with our local area.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? There is an opportunity to complete water quality monitoring on a regular basis to be able to compare and contrast data over time.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? The kit and the practical aspect of testing lead the class towards an exploration of why water quality is important, particularly in through a Māori world view. We began to explore the idea that we are all guardians of water and the environment.
Overall, the kit was useful in supplementing an already established water testing kit we have. Children enjoyed being able to use a range of equipment for analysis.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Beginning the unit with our pepeha helped to develop this as well as the additional reading activities that we have incorporated
This has been one of my favourite school kits. The topic is very relevant to our students and they have enjoyed the digital component, particularly the topomaps work and have gained so much learning out of this. We have not fully completed the kit and have our water trip planned for next week (weather permitting). I have particularly enjoyed the maths integration into measurement and statistics. Thank you an absolutely fantastic kit that I would thoroughly recommend and hope to complete again in the future. Thank you school kit and dairy NZ, its a winner!

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We looked at how the mountains is where the water systems start and with the mihi they located their mountain and river.
An outstanding kit! The tasks and equipment for the testing was easy to use and on the day we had amazing results because of the prep suggested before hand. My class has already decided how we can test other water ways in our area and have more trips planned for next year. I have printed off more of the tasks cards and many class members have gone home and tested their water ways and shared their results and compared results with people up and down their waterways. (we are a rural school)

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? The kit provided us with links to generate our pepeha, supporting videos and karakia. All of which helps support our connection to our maunga, whenua and our awa.
Our kura focus is around building our tamariki as budding scientists. So when this kit presented itself - we jumped at the chance. The kit provided us with the means necessary to explore our local water ways. We have a stream right behind our kura so that was our obvious choice. We were also intrigued with our water way of choice (Mangawhero Stream) as it had risen dramatically during the floods here in Northland and it had an impact on our kura directly. This sparked a lot of thinking and wondering about the living world beneath the waters surface and the quality of the water from nearby farms.

This kit is such a great way to get the children out in our local community. It has created an awareness that the children wouldn't normally have regarding our local waterways and the impacts on them.

We have also invited NIWA to come and talk to our students about the importance of looking after our waterways and the health of waterways in the Waikato.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students developed an understanding that water is connected to all things living. We didn't find many fauna in the stream and students decided that this was linked to the poor quality of the stream.
Our students loved getting out and exploring a local stream in our area. They enjoyed working as a team to complete the experiments and discussing their findings. The resources and activities completed prior to heading out into the field prepared the students make predictions about what they might find.
