This fit perfectly with our statistics unit and our school's kaitiakitanga inquiry. Our students were able to delve into water usage. Heaps of useful resources and all of the material kept the kids super engaged and wanting to work on it each day!

It had a lots of great ideas but it needed a clear concise teaching plan step by step. Most of the activities could be completed very quickly and the students needed more in depth excercises.

The Water Savers Unit work well with our integrated topic of Wonderful Water. We used your unit to look at water conservation along with where we get our water from and what would happen if we don't change what we are doing with our water ways etc.

The water savers kit needs a lot of space! There are many posters to put up and stamp so it needs to be accessible for the students. I think there are many benefits to this kit but in hindsight I should have used it in the summer months when water is running out. I live in a rural community and most homes are using tank water, many of my students already know about how much water they use. I started off my technology unit with this kit and had planned for my students to design a water measuring device to track how much water is used every day BUT early on I could see that this wasn't going to grab their attention or interest. I made a huge shift and we designed mini water slides and had a bit of investigation into the Achimedes screw pump. So, to summarise, I didn't get as much out of my kit as I thought I would. I think the kit might work better in an urban school where there isn't such a focus on daily water usage.

Fantastic learning. Children were very motivated by stamping the large display on the whiteboard. It created such awareness about water use. The virtual water information was also great - we had excellent discussions about this - children and teachers were shocked with the amount of virtual water used to manufacture fizzy drink and juice, in particular. The fact checking information was also great - there is so much information on the internet, all of which needs triple checking.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? We used this within digi tech asa base to learn facts and gather information and then share this with an audience through the use of stop motion animation. It gave the kids a focus but also something they were excited to tell me more about what they had been doing differently at home, when they saw me the following week.

I was trialling this kit in a new context as I moved from my own class of 30 to a technology teacher role working with 5 different classes per cycle. I was easily able to take the resource and adapt it to use within the tech class. The resources and tools included were straight forward for the students to use to gather data as well as gain information quickly.
