I make a large batch of hummingbird nectar from sugar and water nightly.
But I save the leftover for a couple of days. The birds have unfortunately "deposited"
specks and tiny bugs into the feeders, so I need to filter those out to keep the brew
"healthy." I rubberband 4 units together to make the filtering very complete, then
pour the leftover solution through them into another container, thus filtering out
all of the "junk." Works like a charm. Keeps the nectar fresh for maybe 3 or 4 days.
Allows me to cut back somewhat on how much sugar I use daily, which, given the
size of my "colony," gets to be quite a lot...at $8.00 a sack of granulated sugar
at least twice a week. After each filtering, it's easy to just wash out the strainer
combo. Takes seconds, instead of trying to fish out the impurities with mini-
roller brushes, which at best, is an incomplete job that takes a bit of time. This
"invention" of mine -- 4 strainers bound together into one deep one, is the
perfect solution. So glad I found this product!!”
