“I bought an OS35 with 2 extensions and the mobility kit and the hydraulic kit. It was about $18k not including financing costs.
The hydraulic kit is very new, so there are early product issues that all companies must correct. The people I spoke to are nice but you can tell that the management isn't really thinking this product out very well; the manuals and the lack of thought with the hydraulic kit and the trailer kit is very evident.
Would I buy it again? Yes. What will I do for my next mill? I will build my own. I will get more experience using this one and I will build my own. You can't finance a homemade sawmill or any other type of machine, so I had to buy a factory made one that I could afford and it needed to be big.”
“Instructions are not the best but managed.
One bunk is higher than the others.
Other the that the mill was cutting good and had no problems with anything until the cold weather. Now not running and really disappointed.”
“The people at Frontier are probably hands down the most helpful service people you could ask for. The mills are ok. I don’t have anything to compare it to.”
“This is my first experience with a sawmill so there is a steep learning curve. As reflected by the price, the OS23 is an entry level mill. Assembly instructions are adequate but could use more detail. I had difficulty adjusting the motor (10hp) to run at full rpm. This along with proper blade tracking and sharpness is critical to avoid bogging down and getting the blade stuck resulting in either clutch wear or burning up the belt. The water valve and mounting grommet for the blade line system is poorly designed and leaks from the very beginning.
For the price, it is a satisfactory entry level mill and with a little more investment by Frontier or the operator is a serviceable hobbyist/home saw”
“The mill itself is pretty good. The attachments such as the log dog are substantially unimpressive. A cam style lock to hold the log in place would be ideal. The backstop to hold the log in place could easily be a type that flips up or down on a hinge that would be more versatile and easier to use, store and operate. The cross bunks are too high and are hard to navigate logs onto for a small operation with limited resources. Track extensions should include 1 additional backstop for added safety.”
“I purchased the OS27 in 2022. Welded a 21’ trailer for the complete mill with 1 extension. Overall the mill went together well. For the price the mill works well. It was easy enough to put together and looks as though wearable parts should be easy to find. My biggest complaint is the Briggs and Stratton Engine. I could never get it to run correctly or idle correctly. Contacting Briggs or getting a basic manual is impossible. No warranty shops in my area. In the end I put a Predator 22hp on the mill. That engine was quite easy to install on the mill. The engine comes with a great manual and it runs like a top. At this point I would not recommend a mill with the Briggs motor due to my experience. But the Frontier part of the mill has worked well and does have a good manual.”
“After about three years I’d say it’s been overall good. This was a low cost mill and it’s now cut many bft of white pine , hemlock, poplar, maple , cherry and ash. I have learned a few things that have helped immensely , one biggy is I sharpen my blades on the mill about three times before they are worn out. They cut just as new and takes ten minutes with battery powered 4 in. Grinder. Much better then off send away put back on. Another is I made wooden up rights from ash and don’t have to worry about hitting with blade. They work perfectly. Also pine soil added to water helps with pitch and I use plenty of water. Cooler blade longer it last. I like this mill, it does a great job and is economical.”
“Got classic OS27. Water valve is garbage need a fix for that. Only ran mill one time. Ordered bands with the OS27. Was a 10 pack. Apparently when you select options for your mill you better know exactly what size blade you need. This was ordered new and you would think it would ring a bell if they new what they were looking at they would know the bands were to big for my mill and contact me to fix the order. So aggravated today after wanting to run it for the second time and finding out they are to big😡”
“Update: Credit was issued after I received an email request for this review & I appreciate that. What I don't appreciate is that my phone call & emails were ignored, and it was only after a poor public review that someone contacted me, but they did make it right in the end.
I made a mistake & ordered the wrong blades, and when we were switching the order they noticed the online order had failed to give me the 10% off. So, the difference for the slightly larger blades was only supposed to be approximately $10 emote & the Customer Service Rep was very nice. But, I was charged charged an extra $36 instead, which I did not authorize & shipping was delayed multiple times. Reached out twice & received no reply.”
Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for your patience throughout this process. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the discrepancies in pricing and the delay in shipping. It appears there was an error when the blade size was adjusted in your order, and we deeply regret the oversight.
Our customer service team is confirming that everything has been correctly applied to your account. We are also ensuring that any overcharges have been fully refunded. Please expect a follow-up from our team to verify these adjustments.
We truly appreciate your choice to purchase sawmill blades with Frontier and value your business. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make things right. We look forward to serving you better in the future.
