I had recently applied for a balance transfer credit card with Sainsbury’s Bank and although the application was successful and approved, the actual balance transfer application was not. I was not made aware or informed of this until after activating my bank card and seeing no transfer had occurred several days later, I then tried to do it myself through the banking app which then told me my balance transfer was rejected. After speaking with the customer service team they advised that my current credit card with another major bank is not compatible, they would not tell me why (or did not know why) as it is not another credit card with Sainsbury’s bank nor within the same banking group, so I am now left with a credit card I cannot use. Helpful. Fortunately getting through to customer service was swift and a smooth processes compared to my current bank and so they have slightly redeemed themselves there, hence the 2 stars. It might be worth advising potential customers which banks are eligible for balance transfers before finalising applications, instead of potentially leaving them in a mess!

Appalling waiting times of over 40 mins on both my recent calls. The second one necessary because after the first call the promised setting up of a new savings account hadn’t happened.

The renewal quote for Sainsbury's Bank Home Insurance after Year 1 was 30% more expensive than a policy I was offered by another provider, which also included more cover than Sainsbury's. When I attempted to use my online account and phone app to cancel the policy, the option was not available. They debited my account 3 days before the policy was due to renew. I spent hours on the phone trying to reverse this. CONCLUSION: they are not competitive, their account managements services do not let you manage your account and they actively pursue a policy of entrapment for renewal.

Very bad experience with the website. Logging in is a pain, it always rejects a perfectly valid PIN at least once before finally accepting it if you're lucky. Earlier today it refused three times, forcing me to reset it! (I'd guess there's a bug in the input routine). Once in, things don't get any better. Despite having accepted a transfer in from my current account, when I try to transfer out to the same account it's unable to recognise me as the owner.

Have had an account for years, received a letter in August advising me of the interest, received a letter today saying as no activity on my account they were closing it. Spent 3 X 25 minutes on the phone holding and 10 minutes trying to register for online banking. Told me that they would close my complaint and send feedback? How does that help me?

Credit files have not been updated correctly and to my knowledge customers have not been informed about the internal issues / delays in updating. I appreciate the bank has lots to do at this critical time. However, I remain up to date on payments and made a lump sum to reduce the balance 3 months ago, but it is still not showing with the credit service equifax. The first customer services person I spoke to at the bank, blamed equifax and sent me to raise issues with them, the second (on the same day) confirmed that there WAS an issue at the bank. The second officer was courteous and 'may' be able to sort the issue, but there are no certainties and no time frames could be provided. This is clearly an issue that has got away from the bank and it does not have the personnel / facilities to deal with it. Not good.

Took out a car insurance policy online as it said I would receive 6000 reward points for doing it online myself. This was 6 months ago now and every 2 weeks I’ve been calling customer support with the promise of getting these points STILL HAVENT GOT THEM.!!!!!!!! What a scam I should have stayed with Direct Line. SHAME ON YOU SAINSBURY

My late wife had a couple of accounts with them. Absolute nightmare dealing with them. They lost a death certificate, at first refused to accepted a grant of probate because her account was in her maiden name - even though her using her maiden name was made clear. Delay after delay in closing the account. Shambolic. (Also takes ages for them to answer the phone.)

I've used Sainsbury's Bank in the past for credit cards and home insurance and found them to be quite good (though the real test of insurance is when you have to make a claim, and I didn't). So I recently decided to apply for a £25,000 loan with them. I intentionally used their eligibility check first, as I didn't want a hard search on my credit file unnecessarily if they were going to reject me (though my credit score is excellent so I wasn't too concerned). I did the eligibility checker and input my income and the loan amount and it said I had a very good chance of being accepted so I submitted my full application online. It was immediately rejected. I complained and the underwriters explained that Sainsbury's Bank would never have approved a £25k loan on my income. So the lesson learned is don't trust Sainsbury's eligibility checkers, had it worked properly I would not have submitted the application. I now have an unnecessary hard search on my credit file. I immediately applied elsewhere and was instantly accepted, with the £25k in my bank account shortly after. Sainsbury's have recently sold off their mortgage books, have tightened their credit card approvals (my sister who also has an excellent score received a woeful credit card offer from Sainsbury's - she would have got a lot better elsewhere) and it's becoming clear that something's amiss with Sainsbury's own credit worthiness. I will be steering clear of them going forward.

I recently ordered some wine via Sainsburys online store. This was under an offer which because of a hiccup which was no fault of either party, thye couldnt deliver before the end of the offer. Sainsburys offered to redeliver the following day - but then charged the full price for this delivery, rather than the offer price of the original contract. The wine they delivered then did not match the invoice they charged on being several bottles short and having mixed boxes of wines so it was difficult to count the order accurately. I have contacted them several times by email and telephone but have failed to get a reply from either the online delivery complaints department or the store complaints department. The order is being returned!

Applied online for a loan when the agreement arrived the name was wrong. Rang the bank to say name was wrong and was told I would have to re-apply . Application was accepted and agreement arrived was signed and returned with a note to say when the funds were required to be in my account. On the said date nothing was transferred to my account. Orange again and was told the transfer could happen anytime in the day. It didn't happen. I rang the next day to be told that further checks would be made on the day I had said I needed the money in my account which seems rediculous and that it would take two days to do this. This is Sainsbury's procedure. They have had a fortnight to make these checks why wait until the requested payment date to initiate them?? Fortunately I am able to make the payment the funding is for but not everyone is in a position to do this. Very disappointed with Sainsbury's Bank!!!!!!
