I have always found the staff to be polite and professional and due to bike changes, sometimes speak to them several times a year. I have been insured with this company since they took over my previous insurer and have never felt ‘scammed’.
In 2015 I had a claim and was well supported.
It is worth mentioning that, if you are even on cover for 24 hours: You are on risk. So if you cancel, it will cost you a disproportionate amount. You can’t simply divide-up the annual policy cost. This would apply to ANY insurance policy and you are not being scammed.
If you are asked to prove NCB within a certain time, then that’s what you have to do. No you are not different.

“I cancelled my policy a few months ago and thought I might get some kind of refund, returning the certificate of insurance.
But I have heard nothing from them, so am assuming that I wasn't due anything back and that they haven't bothered to tell me.
I would have appreciated at least an acknowledgement from them that they received the certificate and had cancelled the policy.”

“Wanted to change my bike with 3 months remaining, they wanted more for three months than taking out a new policy elsewhere for a year. I told them not to bother to which the very stroppy female customer service employee informed me that as I had obviously sold my other bike, they will cancel the policy and I still have one month to pay. Then went on telling me if I cancel my direct debit they will instruct a debt collector and affect my credit scoring, I will also lose all my NCB,
That was the final straw, I had no intention of A. selling my bike. B. stopping my direct debit and C. its on classic cover where I don't use my NCB on it.
Very good customer services love, you lost your company a customer in two minutes, your company must see you as a great asset.”
