The people at GFL are very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, but are let down by the technology around them. The site itself takes an age to load the homepage (from an IT perspective, it seems to be waiting for some sort of timeout before finally displaying.) The frame selection only allows filtering by one criteria at a time (i can't filter for all black, rectangular, frames in the £100-£150 price range, for example.) Of the frames on the site, not all are available in the colours shown, which I got bitten by, multiple times, in my "Try at Home" attempts. The "Try at Home" service is very good however, and handled quickly, after some problems with Paypal. This is useful, as after choosing both the frames and the lenses, I was told my choices don't fit together and had to choose yet another frame (again, my first choice colours were not available despite still being listed on the site). Finally, the finished product... Does, what it says on the tin! One arm wobbles slightly (though I've been assured this is normal, despite never having seen this before. Perhaps it's a foible of the 1.76 DA Tokai lenses?), and the Super Duper Hydrophobic coating doesn't seem all that hydrophobic at all, but the transitions stuff works! All in all, great value for money (for the 1.76 DA, Tokai lenses) and absolutely lovely people, average product, frustrating website. In two minds as to whether or not I would return.

Read this if you're buying sunglasses! I chose 60% graduated grey tint (the darkest tint available on the drop down menu) and was very disappointed with the result: completely clear when help up to the light. When I phoned to ask if there had been a mistake I was told that was normal for a 60% tint and that a sunglasses tint would normally be more like 85% (not an option on the drop down menu when selecting your sunglasses tint). In addition, I was told that 'Glasses Frames & Lenses' (GFL) have no control over the graduated tint effect and that it's possible to get a lens cut from the lighter part or the darker part. I think this information should be made available when buying sunglasses online, nevertheless a very helpful Tina agreed to remake my sunglasses with an 85% graduated tint (although I had to pay the postage) insisting they would look like a pair of sunglasses you might buy in a sunglasses shop. On receiving this second attempt I was equally disappointed with no notable difference from the first pair - a colleague at work agreed they were as good as clear when held up to a window. This time I spoke to Amanda who said she packed my sunglasses herself and felt they were sufficiently tinted - something I find hard to believe having seen them myself. However, Amanda did offer to remake my sunglasses a third time with a full 85% grey tint (again, sadly without offering to cover postage). So, finally I am happy with my sunglasses now that they have a tint, but it's still not a very dark tint so I would recommend phoning the company and requesting this darker 85% tint when you place an order. On the positive side the lenses are definitely made to prescription, and they also look well made with the anti-reflective coating and a nice chamfered edge which you don't see on a cheap pair of sunglasses. I chose 1.59 polycarbonate lens which resulted in a nice thin lens for my -2.5 distance prescription. Of course I was very happy that GFL offered to remake my sunglasses twice, but I feel this could've easily been avoided with a little more information available on the website when selecting tinted lenses... so hopefully this review will help you avoid the same issues :-)

-- Price: Although the prices were ok at first, there were hidden surcharges (PRISM surcharge). If you seen the same frame at similar price elsewhere, please make sure that GFL prices are really what you pay for. -- Delivery: They don't care about customer's delivery address. My delivery (work place) and billing addresses were different, but they shipped it to the billing address. Obviously, it was not delivered due to my absence at home during office hours. I had to take a half a day day off from work to go and collect it from Royal mail office -- Waiting time: They have a long waiting time (3-4 weeks) as opposed what they claim in their website. They almost forget your order until you explicitly send an email asking for the status. Then they seem to reply such that 'your glasses are due in today but send for glazing today/tomorrow'. This may not happen until you ask for the status next time. -- Packaging is extremely poor without any impact protection. The glass inside its box was also freely moving without any protection (like cloth or some sort of bubble wrap). There is a high chance that this will break the glass (especially non-polycarbonate ones) or the screws in the frames would break loose soon after delivery. If you compare it to Amazon that delivers small cheapo items with massive protection, you'd be surprised about GFL's lack of protection for a £100+ glass. -- Quality: The ONLY good thing that makes me give them 'Normal' is that the glasses are just fine.

Dear Dr Vijayarangakannan, thank you for your review and I am sorry to learn that you did not have a pleasant shopping experience with us. Let me address some of your comments: The error on the delivery address was down to human error with a member of the team and I take on board your comments and also offer my sincere apologies that you were inconvenienced. I too would have been frustrated with this aspect had I been in your situation. In respect of the prism surcharge, this information is available once a prescription has been entered and customers are made aware of this. Unfortunately there is a slightly different manufacturing process for prescriptions with prism and we are charged by the lab for this. I shall however ensure that surcharge information is made available on the Site to potential customers. Your order took 15 working days to be dispatched to you, the delay being caused due to a problem on the left lens that was noted during the glazing process, and the lab therefore had to reorder the lens. I believe you were made aware of this at the time. With regards to your comments about our packaging, all frames aredispatched in a clear plastic glasses bag in a glasses case with a lens cloth, and are packaged in a bubble wrap padded envelope for protection. If you have advised that your glasses were loose in the case without the plastic protection and cloth, I can only imagine that this element has been missed on this occasion. As a family business we do pride ourselves on our customer service, for which we have received a great many reviews. I therefore apologise sincerely with regards to your rare experience; it is certainly not in line with the good reputation we have worked so hard to achieve. I hope to have the opportunity going forward for my team and I to demonstrate our usual good service to you. Best regards, Tina Mason Managing Director.
