TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE & UNPROFESSIONAL. I had a very disappointing experience with Hammond Trotter Solicitors and feel it’s important to share this for others considering the firm. My case involved a speeding offence and an alleged failure to provide driver details. I was repeatedly advised that the defence of not receiving the letters would be sufficient to dismiss both offences and was told this was a strong and commonly successful defence. Unfortunately, this advice proved to be incorrect. Case preparation was extremely poor. Despite months of communication, there appeared to be little meaningful work done. On the day of the hearing, the barrister advised me—just minutes before trial—to plead guilty to the speeding offence. This directly contradicted the advice I had been given for months by the solicitor I dealt with, particularly Marc, who had told me to tell the truth. The truth was that I could not remember who was driving, as the alleged offence dated back over a year. Being given completely conflicting advice at such a late stage was highly unprofessional. The barrister also appeared inexperienced and offered little effective defence. I felt unsupported in court, and it genuinely felt as though the outcome would have been the same had I represented myself. Another serious issue was the advice regarding evidence. Months before the hearing, we asked multiple times whether we should gather evidence to show the letters had not been received. We were told this was unnecessary and would not help. However, the court asked for evidence during the hearing, and after the case concluded, the barrister stated that such evidence would have significantly helped my case. This contradiction was alarming. Following the hearing - where I was ordered to pay over £2,000 in fines and costs and received six penalty points - the barrister made an inappropriate joke telling me to “drive like a granny.” Given the serious financial and personal consequences, this was completely unprofessional, and shows she did not take this case seriously at all. I understand there are no guarantees in legal cases, but the lack of preparation, poor communication, and clear inconsistency between solicitor and barrister advice are unacceptable. I paid around £3,000 in legal fees, in addition to over £2,000 in court penalties, and now face higher insurance premiums. This outcome was nothing like how the case was described to me as “relatively simple” with a strong defence. PERSONALLY, I WOULD RECOMMEND DO NOT GO AHEAD WITH THIS FIRM, THEY WILL NOT TAKE YOUR CASE SERIOUSLY AT ALL, AND WILL TELL YOU TO REPORT YOUR ISSUES IN A DISPUTE AFTER THE CASE IS COMPLETED.

My experience with Hammond Trotter Solicitors was extremely distressing — so much so that it has taken me over a year to process what happened and finally write this review. I have never committed an offence before, nor was it ever my intention to do so. The incident that led to my case occurred during a period of extreme stress, and I reached out to the firm in a state of desperation, unfamiliar with the legal system and hoping for guidance. Initially, I was offered a warm and reassuring picture of how things might proceed. I paid £500 upfront for a written statement, which ultimately proved to be of no use and contained multiple spelling mistakes. In hindsight, I should have walked away at that point — but I was not in the right mental state to make that decision. My case was handled by a solicitor named Mark, whom I never met in person until the day of the hearing. Prior to that, our total communication amounted to less than 30 minutes over the phone. On the day of the hearing, Mark informed me — just ten minutes before entering court — that additional, more serious charges had been added and the case would be moved to Crown Court. When I asked why I hadn’t been told earlier, he admitted he had known since the previous week but chose not to inform me because he believed “it wouldn’t have made any difference.” I was advised on the spot to plead guilty to all charges. There was no discussion of my mental health at the time of the incident, nor did Mark seem to have any understanding of my background or circumstances. At one point, the judge asked whether I could understand what was being said in court — presumably because my name didn’t sound British. Rather than advocate for me, Mark simply looked at me for confirmation. I had lived in the UK for 15 years by then and held a management position. At the end of the brief hearing, Mark rushed off without giving me a chance to ask questions or discuss any possible defence. I was left standing alone, confused, and deeply disappointed. If you are not British, or if you are vulnerable in any way, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for legal support. My experience was not only unprofessional — it was traumatising.

I went to the trial hearing. The barrister had no case in my defence and on several occasions stood silent and didn't know what to say to the court or how to proceed. I spent £7800 to lose my licence, and would not recommend them at all.
