“Very disappointing handling of a faulty marketplace purchase by Mighty Ape.
I first reported on 28 June that two phone cases had developed serious cracking and delamination after four months of normal use. The third-party seller would only offer replacements and expected me to arrange return shipping to Australia. I rejected that proposal twice and made clear that I was willing to return the cases if a prepaid return label was provided.
On 16 July, Mighty Ape upheld the seller’s replacement-only position. I replied the same day, again requesting a refund and explaining why replacement cases were not acceptable under CGA, but Mighty Ape have not responded for 11 days and counting.
One case has deteriorated to the point that silicone has come away from one corner, leaving the phone exposed, while a second corner is beginning to fail in the same way. I have also identified a small chip on the phone at the exposed corner. The other case is similarly deteriorating as well.
I have been a Mighty Ape customer for around 17 years, and I have noticed a significant change in the level of customer service. In the past, I had confidence that Mighty Ape would take responsibility and resolve problems fairly. This experience has been very different.
What has been most frustrating is the lack of timely intervention after the seller failed to resolve the issue. Buyers using Mighty Ape’s marketplace should be aware that, in my experience, getting a faulty third-party product resolved may involve lengthy delays, repeated follow-up and little meaningful assistance from Mighty Ape, even where the product is continuing to fail.”
“Review – Order #T72XU6LQ
Extremely disappointing experience with Mighty Ape Marketplace.
I purchased a Dell Precision 3630 clearly advertised as including an NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super graphics card. The computer supplied did not contain the advertised graphics card. The seller later acknowledged that the listing was incorrect.
Despite this being a straightforward “not as described” issue, Mighty Ape has not provided a prompt or decisive resolution. Instead, I have been repeatedly directed to their internal marketplace process while they “investigate with the seller.” Communication has been slow and resolution efforts have lacked urgency.
More concerning, the seller issued return labels containing inaccurate customs declarations — one declaring the item as a “gift”, and another declaring the value as $1. These declarations did not reflect the true nature or value of the goods.
Using such documentation could have exposed me to risk if questioned by customs authorities, and may have resulted in the shipment being held or delayed for an extended period. I declined to use these labels for that reason.
Purchasing through a major NZ retailer’s marketplace should provide oversight, accountability, and consumer protection. In this case, responsibility has effectively been pushed back onto the third-party seller while I have been left to escalate the matter myself.
Buyers should be aware that marketplace transactions may involve significant delay and complication if the product supplied does not match the description.”
“Purchased Xbox Series X Galaxy which was advertised with a complementary gift card via MightyApe's "Gorilla Gaming" domain.
They failed to supply the gift card, I messaged them immediately. There was no response for 1 week until I messaged again. I was told they were looking into it... still nothing after another whole week has passed and I message again. They've just said "sorry it wasn't supposed to be advertised with a giftcard, but we'll give you discount for your next purchase instead".
Why would I purchase anything from a company that takes 2 weeks to respond just to wiggle out of a supplying a gift card. And it wasn't a mistake because I tested the same offer on the MightApe and it added the gift card to the trolley automatically - so they're also willing to plainly lie to customers.
Would avoid purchasing anything from this company due to clear evidence of low integrity culture.”
“Worst experience ever! Sign you up for subscription you never ask for and didn’t give permission for it. They just help themselves in you bank account! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!”
“Mighty Ape provides false, misleading information on their listings. “Sold by Mighty Ape” actually means shipping from supplier. I don’t believe the “in stock” was true either. “Buy now and it ships on or before the 21st December” was a complete farce as well. Who knows how many people you have duped out of their hard earned money that was meant for Christmas presents.”
“I ordered birks three weeks in advance and they hadn’t arrived so I got in touch took three days for them to reply to say they don’t have them and my refund took 4 days so I review is 1bstar”
“I have been a loyal and happy customer of Mighty Ape for some years. However recently their customer service has slipped. A recent hasn't been dispatched - 9 days after placing and paying for it - and they are ignoring my written request to advise me what the problem is. As they don't have a contact telephone number and as time is running out before Christmas there is nothing I can do other than cancel the order and hope to find the items elsewhere.”
“Very poor communication as they had shipment delays and neither send comes out to inform me, and they will Not do an Saturday delivery and have to wait till Monday for there stuff up.”
“These websites are always full of complainers as that's who usually writes reviews. I, for one, love the speedy service and price match. I'm now a Primate and get free delivery. At first I thought it was expensive but just bought a price-matched office chair and got free delivery. Couldn't get better. Paid itself off straight away.”
“Don't buy and expect delivery or customer service - even if you pay for overnight, don't expect on time (i.e. Christmas) and don't expect to get an answer or your money back.”
“There is no way of contacting Mighty Ape. No address, no telephone number, not even an email address. I paid and never received my order. I hate Mighty Ape with a passion.”
“Mighty Ape don't provide an actual phone number to contact someone when things go wrong. As in my order never arrived. I have been trying to get in touch with them for several weeks now. I have sent them messages via their so called "customer service centre" and all I get is a written robot response saying take the matter up with Australia Post. At present Australia Post are not taking any calls concerning lost orders as they are too flat out. I feel it should be the responsibility of Mighty Ape to follow up an order that doesn't arrive. They are hopeless with customer service. Never again.!!”
“Terrible return protocol. Have dodged giving refund in a faulty electrical product for over a week and is ongoing. I have been advised that I will have to pay for any repairs in a product that was faulty upon receiving. Could not start the product from the beginning. This is not a joke. Don’t sell faulty products then refuse to give a refund. My husband and I work hard for our money.”
