“Did a vehicle check before buying a motorbike frame with V5 on eBay, all was OK with no markers against it, sent the V5 away and received a letter from DVLA stating the bike was an insurance write off and can't be used on the road. Luckily I managed to get my money back from the seller but will definitely NOT be using Mycarcheck again”

Hi Iain Sorry that the vehicle check did not show an insurance write off at the time the check was created. We took the date from the report shown on the eBay advert by the seller, when the report was created we had not been advised by our data partners of the write off. We're investigating with them why there was a delay in sending us this data. Glad you got your money back. Sincere apologies The My Car Check Team

“Very poor indeed I felt the report was very poor indeed flagging up a Warning stating the car in question had been subject to a total write off, but with no explanation, I had to buy another check from HPI to establish that a personal number plate fitted to the car in question had at one stage been on a car which was written off, but this was 15 years before the car in question had even been built, BIG RED WARNING but totally invalid. Lesson, spend money wisely and buy a proper check from HPI in the first place.”

Hi Thanks for your feedback. When we set about re-building our new website and app, saving, converting and presenting old data was a big challenge. So we carried out research to understand the need for it. This research suggested that there was little value in a customer accessing old checks, particularly free look-ups, therefore we did not build it in to the new website and app. Many thanks My Car Check Team.

“Was a brilliant app until they updated it and made it rubbish. Why do all apps think updates make them better when 90% of the time it makes them harder to use than it used to be!! Wasn’t broke so stop trying to fix it!!!”

Hi Thanks for your feedback. Many changes have been made to the app that were necessary for technical, legal and commercial reasons. Whilst we appreciate that not everyone will be happy with the number and scale of changes we've made, the vast majority of users have carried on as normal and have been unaffected. Thanks.

Hi We always recommend that you contact our call centre if the vehicle check report displays a finance marker. They are open again on Monday at 9:00am, the contact number is 0330 331 0030 and a member of the team will investigate to see if the finance record is still outstanding against the vehicle you checked. Hi Chris, can you please contact us so we can take a look at your check. The £9.99 "Comprehensive" check will supply vastly more information than that, such as Finance, Write-off and stolen markers. Data such as this is not available anywhere else for free either. Thanks.

“Wasn’t up to date. It came up as outstanding finance but Jaguar Land Rover did a hpi check the same day and it was all clear. Not worth the £9.99”

Hi, thanks for your feedback. We rely on our data suppliers to provide us up-to-date information, but there can sometimes be a delay in the update being sent to us. We are always working with our suppliers to provide data as quickly as possible but sometimes this is not possible. On the other hand, it is better to be informed that there was finance than not and a quick call into our contact centre can get updated information whilst you're on the phone. We do always suggest you call us when there is a finance marker. Thanks.

“Paid good money for a thorough check, the report shows that that cars miles doubled in the last year... when I checked the MOT record it shows a normal annual mileage! I emailed to aske them to double check and was given an exuse about errors in their system... I don’t want my HPI checker making any mistakes at all.... I nearly didn’t buy the car because of this. Disappointing and not worth the money if it doesn’t work correctly.”

Hi, many thanks for your feedback. We will, of course, be investigating your experience thoroughly to ensure that the data we show our users is correct and up to date. As you can appreciate, some vehicles have circumstances (such as plate transfers, etc) that complicate the data trail and can sometime throw up strange anomalies. Many thanks.

“Get what you pay for... stick to trusted suppliers. Checked my bike, came back showing mileage history from 2007 and should be on 95K miles at this point. You can imagine my surprise given the bike's a 2016 plate. Turns out they are showing the mileage of one of my cars - which now has my private plate on (despite the bike check showing the plate being removed some time ago). Essentially its just a jumble of information that you cant trust.”

“So much worse than the previous app! Produces a generic value based on average mileage instead of asking for exact mileage which was the case with previous app. I paid for a valuation and it simply gave me the value shown in the free factsheet. Rubbish! Really really bad that I lost all of my previous, paid for checks when they changed the app. Some had been bought within the last few weeks for £10’s of pound!!”

Hi, as part of our most recent security and compliance audit we implemented a number of changes which restricted our website and service by country or IP address. Unfortunately it looks like you are no longer able to use the service because of that. Our service is specifically for UK-based users checking UK-registered cars. Thanks.

“I paid £1.99 for a basic car check, however I never received any information regarding the vehicle. I received two emails, the first of which asked me to verify my email address which I did and the second saying I would receive a web link for info regarding the car. I tried to call the company late Sunday morning but they were closed. The email was not in my junk folder either.”

Hi Joe, it looks like there was an issue with emails at that time. However, when you complete the purchase, the car check immediately loads on-screen, so you should have been able to see the details right away. In addition, because you have registered (and verified by using the email) you can log back in at any time and see your check. You do not need the email (although useful) to actually see the check. Thanks.

Our product information and prices are very clear. Our products (including the app) is specifically to be used as a vehicle checker. We recently changed our app and removed data that we were no longer able to show for free. Unfortunately that removed a feature that some users had been able to use for free. To be clear, that was not the purpose of our app, it was an unintentional benefit to some users who were not using the app for its intended purpose. Thanks.

“Indeed I am surprised when I checked a car with your service. You said that there is finance on a car, but the seller told me that there wasn’t. Then Ichecked with 2-3 different providers. All were clean. Then I checked secınd time with you, your system still says there is finance. I may wasted my money? Maybe you are checking the old records?”

Hi, thanks for your feedback. We rely on finance companies providing us with their most up-to-date information, and as you can imagine, this can sometimes be delayed. Our advice would be that it is always better to be alerted to possible finance records which can be clarified, than buying a car not knowing it had finance, so never a wasted effort to do a check. Our guidance is always to contact us or seek further information from the seller (or an alternative check), which you did, as you can always get swift clarification. Thanks.

Hi, we (and our competitors) do not hold information about car accidents and do not sell our products claiming to know about accidents. We are only informed of the write-off/scrapped status by insurers and the DVLA. A vehicle can successfully be repaired after an accident and never need to be classed as a write off. Hope this helps.

“I bought a motorbike after MY CAR CHECK said it was hpi clear.it turned out to be a cat S write off 4 months before the hpi was carried out. So I’m stuck with a write off.so don’t trust this company info it is incorrect. They admitted there mistake but as the vendor paid for the hpi there is nothing I can do the guarantee is worth nothing.see photos bike written off June 2017. First hpi end sept 2018 second about a week ago both done by MY CAR CHECK first one says no accidents. Second one says cat S write off”

“wrong / outdated finance information, staff rude and refused to pass me over to any management and cut me off every call, I had to pay £9.95 for staff to laugh at my situation of a grieving widow of 2 days being given info her car is on finance and not knowing where to find the money to pay for it. It took myself (not mycarcheck.com) to figure out there was a mistake David was the ONLY member of staff that was patient and helped resolve my grievance”
