“Origin energy is a thug!!! I moved to Brisbane in July 2022, my apartment has integrated supply for hot water and gas with Origin. I don't have a choice to move to other supplier.
Feb 2024, I received a bill for $400, shock of my life. The adjustments range from Jan 2023 till Oct 2023.As an immigrant I have been dealing with cost of living, child care etc..all of a sudden this is a bomb on my wallet. my regular bill never crossed $100. I was furious and rang up Origin. They said these are adjustments, supplier recently sent us correct readings. They stuck to the same story. I asked are you going to send me another adjustment in few months? she says she's not sure. so the current bill is not final, they will not take correct readings. she says IT glitch, I said I work in IT what is the IT glitch? you cannot get away with regular reason as IT glitch. she says I'm not trained to check that so you find our since you work in IT. she started telling me she can't hear me and the call was dropped. I receive a message telling me that my meter was broken!! how long was the meter broken? why no one checked if it is broken? so how do I know this is an honest and correct bill?? on top of all other issues I'm fighting with one more was added by Origin. I have raised a complaint with Fair trade office, they have accepted my complaint. waiting how it goes!!”
“Yes we have Solar on our roof and guess Origin sent us a letter and text and email that they are coming out on the 23rd February 2024 to change the meter. We are not to approach the servicemen while doing the job.
Ok they changed it but disconnected our solar system.
I have rang 3 times, call centre in New Zealand, have to email technician it will take a couple of days, is the inverter switched on, these are the feed back.
All I want is our solar system connected it is a lemon on the roof.
I cannot prove it but I think they have done this on purpose.
Anyway rang AGL transferring to them in 5 days, there solar technician will come out and fix our solar free of charge.
Feel sorry for many others out there that this origin company is doing the same thing to.

I got a shock of my life on my last bill almost triple the average, the only thing they can say was" we can put you on a better plan" nothing to fix the over rated charge on my account, then after switching over to someone else, the harasment started 3 phone calls aday message after message about final bill payment

Recieved a $1,200 bill and questioned it as I also have solar they put me on a better rate so they said, I reduced dryer use by half and stopped fish tank and water fountain filter and now just received a $2425 dollar quarter bill. I cant get them to send me a regular bill, sometimes its quarterly sometimes its every 6 months, i cant see my usage since April 2023 and no matter how many times i call to beg for a bill or at least an amount or even a vague idea of usage so i can budget for their high prices i get nothing but some parrot saying "technical issue that has unfortunately impacted the billing cycle" but this has been going on for over 12 months, if you are thinking of going with origin....don't, they are the most inept company you will ever deal with”

“Origin do final meter reading with inflated estimates and refuse to update them and say they will ring you back numerous times but they never do. They hope you get sick of things and just pay the inflated estimates. ACTEWAGL at least are more trustworthy in their business practices.”

We had solar panels installed over three months ago and we keep getting told that they want between $450-$1500
dollars to install a isolation switch
We have paid another $250 dollars to the solar company to install a another switch
How come origin are now charging for a change over to a smart meter before you had solar panels and now they do

Long story short. I moved 8 months ago. I changed energy providers at the same time, and im still getting bills.
Also just for reference, I gave them a months notice of the account closure and move out.
So Origin "lost" my account credit and continued charging me even after having closed the account. I went to the ombudsman, who forced them to issue the refund (of several hundred) and close the account on the correct date. Now 8 months on, I don't have an account, login information nor do I live at that property. And yet! I am still getting sent bills, and because the account and I quote "is not available as it's on our old system" they won't do anything except transfer me from foreign (Singapore) "customer service rep" (more like customer harassment rep) to another. They refuse to assist me unless I provide all my information including my CURRENT address which has never been associated with them in addition to the entirety of my personal information (email, phone, date & place of birth, bank details, current address and details of any other residents).
Bottom line don't use Origin they are scammers and thieves.”
“Terrible systems and bill estimation. We are having to call Origin every quarter to reassess our bill as they cancel the in-person meter reads and way overestimate our energy/gas usage. Last quarter, our energy bill should have been $300 and we were charged over $1500 worth of usage. We are told every time to submit our own reads, however, the self-meter reads are continuously invalidated. This has happened since we opened an account with them 2 years ago. I would love to stay with them if this could be rectified, however, this occurs every time.”
