Course material is good. It's more of a self study option. Wish there was an option of doing a few exercises (few mocks not just one) and it getting checked by some instructors. Instead of a single mock to practise before the validation exam.

It was fine. The pace was good, and the level of detail was good, but I don't think it was structured in a particularly helpful way. It felt like it was written by somebody who already had a good level of understanding and didn't take into account that the audience would be complete beginners. Also the pdf needs some formatting work since on many of the pages the boxes were too small to read what you had entered which makes checking very hard. It would also be really helpful if the tab key could actually take you to the next box rather than jumping around. I know it's a little thing but it would make a difference. It also looked to me like there were some errors in module 7 around the VAT calculations (p14) - although I'm reading this back from my notes so I can't remember exactly what I thought was incorrect. I also think that for the money paid for the course the very least you could do is provide print outs of everything you need rather than expecting the student to print it out.

Overall I am satisfied with the course as I gained some applicable knowledge from studying the modules. Unfortunately I did not feel very supported and felt that much of the programme was disorganised. It would have been beneficial to be able to map my course across a year, there isn't really the option to do this, meaning that each time a module ended I had to request the next module to be uploaded. On a few occasions this process took over a week, preventing me beginning studying. A number of times the study platform would crash; a technical fault, but as the courses are primarily distance learning, this was extremely frustrating, especially when I would have allocated time from my employer to study each week. If the system was down during this time this meant trying to fit in my studying elsewhere. Additionally I often came to exams feeling unprepared; my first exam (keyboard skills development), I was asked if I had my selected text that I would be typing out. Not only had I never been directed to the book that this text came from, I was not aware that I should have selected (or been given) a text that I would be using in my assessment. I had to choose a text on the spot. Of course if I had been able to practice this text I would have received a better wpm grade! I think that some of the modules are outdated and need updating. More guidance and advice should be offered as to what is available to students in terms of resources and support from the Pitman team. On the up side Patricia and Suzan (both Course Supervisors) were helpful and generally quick to respond. They were apologetic when things didn't go quite to plan, things out of there control, and were good at booking in my exams and accommodating any changes.

I am 'old school' and struggled with on-line training. I was slower than other candidates and felt pressured. I did not finish within time scale on the day but was able to complete it at a later date, in my own time and passed!

I completed my Payroll Award with Pitman Training. It offered a good step by step guide for sage 50 payroll and excel but I found I had to do alot of my own research when it came to payroll principles or any theory. The book offered for Payroll Principles didn't offer much information and I got most of my information online I didn't get value for money with this course,it was expensive for what I got in return which was 3 books and the use of a computer and sage 50 payroll. The tutors were always there to help if needed

I received different information from different members of staff. It became confusing and when I queried it the centre manager completely shut me down. From that experience I lost faith in their interest in my individual learning. Aside from that I found the tests a bit of a waste of time as you can reference your notes. Literally you can "achieve" distinction without actually firmly knowing your material to an independent level.

I probably wouldn’t use Pitman

Some of the training was a little dated and the terminology and ideas presented. I think some of the modules such as events, marketing etc could do with a refresh. The core/office based modules were excellent with the exception of outlook. There could have been more focus on how this could be used as an organisational tool, especially for any PA diploma.

The course itself was good. Very informative. However, my log in details were delayed. I think the process of having to go into the office is ridiculous, I don't know why it's necessary for an online course. I travelled into town and paid for parking specifically to go to the office, where I couldn't even complete the induction because I didn't have a log in yet. I wasn't contacted to say that it wasn't worth the trip.

It’s not cheap, but its reputation is good. I’m disappointed that the distance learning material is not all compatible with Apple systems. This means that trips to the study centre are required, which is not always convenient.

I enjoyed the coarse, but feel it is very much so for begins just out of school and at the start of their career in Business Admin, having done administration for the last 7 years I already knew the basics and what was in the book. On the other hand Pitman training were great and there to help. When I needed to call or email I had a response that same day.

The place was nice and easy to get. The only thing I found that was wrong with training was that if you got stuck with anything there was nobody to help you as nobody there knew anything about Sage Payroll, you were just told to go back to the begining of the chapter and go through it again. I just thought that when you go to a classroom enviroment there would be someone to help!
