Nice website that makes reviewing options a pleasure. The transaction went through without incident and Sykes made several follow-ups to ensure all was well (a nice touch). We will definitely use them again when booking holiday cottages.

We stayed at valley lodge 11, Honicombe Park, Callington. The lodge was a good size with a living area and kitchen upstairs and 3 bedrooms downstairs. We had already contacted Sykes prior to arrival to request that the beds were ziplocked into doubles and this was done. Towels and tea towels were provided Upstairs was modern and clean with a cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedrooms however were unpleasantly smelly, particularly the wardrobes, we bought 3 static air fresheners which helped slightly. The weather was poor so it wasn’t warm enough to dry anything that was washed, a heated clothes rail or tumble dryer would be beneficial. The hot tub was great, and undercover so not weather dependant. The WI-FI is awful, not good when you can’t get out and about. Hot water is also limited, you have to boost it a little while before you need it and if you use the shower downstairs it knocks off the electricity upstairs. This played havoc with the fridge and it was difficult to keep the food as cool as it should be. A few too many negatives for us so we won’t be returning.

Booked with sykes to stay at Busk cottage Ambleside. Cottage cosy but decoration was shabby and much in need of some TLC. Having said this, the bedding was spotless, alas same couldn't be said for carpets/lounge rug.

All the staff I spoke to were very nice and genuinely helpful if I had any queries. However I did not appreciate the email and text message I got when I was leaving the holiday home booked through Sykes. After paying over £500 for a cottage for a week in November I did not expect to be asked to strip the beds, do the washing up and generally leave the place fit for the next people to stay in. Having been an owner myself I really appreciated it when people staying in our cottage did some of these things, but I would never have dreamt of expecting them to do it. Not good

We stayed at Monfa in Camaes, Anglesey. I would like to give specific feedback to the owners but am not being offered the opportunity. There was no visitors book and no email asking for feedback. I have constructive suggestions to offer that would make this lovely house even better and could make it more attractive to future guests. As it is we would not rent it again or recommend it to friends.

well presented except you could see straight into the shower room & we had to make a screen using kitchen roll. Bedrooms had wet curtains each morning with damp. 1 tiny bin in kitchen was only bin in bungalow. Be prepared for steep hills, but there's a pub a few minutes walk away with good food.. re Greenbank Cres., Porth

We arrived at Ty Hydref in Beaumaris at 4 pm Friday 28th August to find dirt everywhere including the cooker, chairs, rugs and the sink pedestal. The kitchen floor was covered in crumbs and there was a half used toilet roll that previous residents had obviously touched. Worse of all , and most worrying , was a bag of someone else’s rubbish on the bedroom bannister . Totally unacceptable. Sykes Cottages final resolution offered at 8.45pm ,after we had been sat outside in our car for nearly fours hours ,was firstly could we just get into the bed and it get cleaned tomorrow ! Or we could go to a hotel and they would get it cleaned the next day. Not acceptable when we had paid £600 and only had a three night stay anyway. We obviously left , it was too late to drive home and paid ourselves to stay in a hotel which we had to travel another 30 miles away. Due to the bank holiday we have been unable to find any other accommodation in the area and had to return home to celebrate our Pearl Wedding anniversary. We advised Sykes Holiday that we both have health issues that make us vulnerable . We are now b pursuing a formal complaint

Due to travel 21/06. No refund full balance taken. I emailed the below text to Sykes today. Lets hope they also change their policy and start treating their customers fairly!!! The holiday rentals firm behind Hoseasons and Cottages.com has agreed to give customers refunds for cancelled trips due to the coronavirus crisis after being reported to the competition watchdog. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Vacation Rentals had changed its policy after originally refusing to give money back to customers whose stays had been cancelled. But it said it is continuing to investigate the sector, with other holiday companies still refusing to offer customers their money back. The CMA warned it could take court action against firms that refuse to treat customers fairly amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Like many others, I had a holiday booked with Sykes due to commence on 20 June. The balance of payment of £968 was due on 9th May. I was unable to change the date of his holiday on line (the system only allows holidays up to 14th June to be changed) and cancellation would have involved charges just short of £400. They patently cannot deliver this product under current restrictions yet still persisted in sending me reminders about final payment! After a frustrating exchange of emails I finally managed to speak to a member of staff by telephone this morning. She was brilliant and whilst I held on line she contacted the property owners for me and negotiated a re-booking for 12 months hence. It cost me a £30 admin fee but considering their previous intransigent position I regard this as a good result! My advice is don't try to deal with this online. Ring them. You may have to wait for an answer (48 minutes in my case) but the persistence will pay off.

Appalling customer service We have used Sykes many times in the past with no problems however our latest booking has been cancelled by Sykes with no explanation and contacting customer service has proved fruitless so far. I noticed that the funds for our holiday which were paid in full have not been reimbursed as yet. Very poor show will not be using this company again.

Oakapple cottage Lyndhurst rented 3days £1450 . No heat no hot water due to faulty boiler tripping every few hours. No key for bike store no dartboard, rats in back yard, downstairs shower room floods after every use as no drain point making very dangerous and slippery. No logs for fire and couple of dodgy other points in upstairs bathroom Sykes don't appear concerned about any points made so probably best avoided

Beware of this company. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. 72 hours for a manager to respond that’s what the customer service department told me. !! Last week had no reply whatsoever. Rang yesterday told same story so 10 hours in would anyone care to have a small wager that they don’t return my call. Absolutely shocking. Can’t begin to imagine what would happen if you had a problem while on holiday. We haven’t even made it to the accommodation as yet . 😩😩😩. So sad we are being treated in this awful way after being regular customers for over many years. Come on Sykes treat your customers with respect!!

If you have to book with them do NOT take out UK holiday cancellation insurance with Sykes , it is a complete waste of money , not worth the paper it’s written on . The Sykes advisers are not trained to explain how pre existing conditions such as hypertension (raised or high blood pressure ) will affect your claim . Even if it is controlled and absolutely nothing to do with why you are cancelling you will not be refunded by the insurance company. I had a lower back injury and the pain was too bad for me to travel to Wales by car , so I thought I’d get my money back but no . The upselling of insurance is purely to make more money out of the customer and my advice would be , don’t take it out , in fact don’t uses Sykes .

Up to now I have no qualms with sykes. My husband and I stayed in a chalet in Bridlington. The three piece looked ok until you say on it couldn't get up as it was that low. Living area had far to much furniture in it. Sliding door entrance is far to high it needs a proper step.

We have rented a property from Sykes on a few occasions but this year their customer service has been appalling. We booked an apartment in Wales from the 18th Sept but unfortunately family circumstances arose whereby we could not go. I tried phoning them many times to let them know that we would not be taking up occupancy of the apartment but in the end just hanging up as there was no response. I emailed on the 24th Sept and 26th Sept (when they asked us to vote for them at the upcoming holiday awards) JOKE - I am still waiting for a response to my emails. There was no contact number on the paperwork for us to get in touch with the owner of the apartment, so it seems we have waived goodbye to over £500.00. It also seems that Sykes are only interested in taking a hefty deposit and helping themselves to the final payment some 6/7 weeks beforehand (they may as well wear masks)
