Extremely poor customer service. Booked a property in February (for next New Year) and was very surprised to get an email from the company in July informing me that a decision had been made to apply a £150 deposit to the booking. There was no mention of this in the original agreement and no mention in the email of how the deposit would be administered or how any disagreements would be arbitrated. Repeated requests by email from me have elicited no response from the company. A phone call from me, involving a 30 minute wait, was answered by an agent unable to answer any of my questions.

Mengarth property . Cadgwith Cove . Lovely property with extensive and interesting planting . However , the standard of cleaning is well below average . All toilets and kitchen equipment had to be cleaned on arrival by me . The en-suite toilet it is impossible to sit on it unless you sit side on due to lack of knee space ( I’m 5 ft tall p.s.) The couches are unclean . The whole place around all the windows is dirty and needed cleaning . All the doors are dirty too . As we are in the middle of a pandemic we stayed as little other options . There are some really interesting objects in the house and I can see it was once spectular . An alarm goes on at midnight when you go out the front door , but I had no way of turning it off . There are scant instructions on how to use most things in the house and none for this alarm . In short a great old house once but in need of a very good clean .

We stayed at Jordan House in Boscastle and were very disappointed. Firstly the situation with parking was extremely difficult to say the least. We had to compete with locals, second home owners and other holiday makers for a parking space down a very narrow road. The locals would get very upset with the situation and understandably so. Secondly and most important, was the cleanliness of the cottage. bearing in mind we are in the middle of a pandemic you would think, and expect, the cleanliness to be A1, unfortunately this was not the case. Dust and dirt was found in most rooms, old toasted breadcrumbs around and under the toaster, grease and fat on the front of the fridge and the sides of kitchen units and the kitchen sink was filthy. There was a smell of rotting vegetation in the living room which we discovered was coming from the chimney. The owners had obviously not had the chimney swept in some time and nesting materials was dropping down into the fire place. When sitting in the garden area you would be consumed by the strong smell of oil from the tank directly adjacent, unbelievably the owners had provided a BBQ for use directly next to the oil tank (an accident waiting to happen). Overall we were very disappointed with the cottage and would certainly not recommend this to anyone.

Finally they are seeing sense and paying out. Be careful, do not accept credit notes, keep insisting that the contract has been frustrated - I've been at this since begining of April and today received news that they are paying out in full. So go on take heart and keep emailing requesting refunds - It is the law of the UK - no if - No buts!!!!!

Left a neutral review last year struggled to get it on their website eventually they did, next year gave a mainly positive review but with a few small issues again not published. I would not use Sykes again as their reviews are obviously selective.

I have rented 2 apartments through Sykes this year and on each occasion their customer service has been useless when dealing with problems. The first was in Dartmouth in June 2019 when they e-mailed me a week before we were going, to warn me that there was building work next door. I rang them immediately to find out what the work was and what options we had, with no helpful response. I then saw the review from the previous renter to find that the view was obscured by scaffolding and angle grinders running from 7:30 in the morning till 5 in the afternoon. I rang Sykes again to see if they could offer an alternative, they would not provide alternative accommodation. Needless to say I cancelled the reservation and asked for my money back, then found better accommodation elsewhere. The second was in Scarborough in July 2019. The "stunning" apartment was one of 6 in a smart looking building pictured in the web page. When we arrived we found the appartment was actually in the rear car park not one of those in their web picture. Cars were parked next to the lounge windows. The only entrance to the other apartments was next to our lounge so blinds were drawn for privacy. The windows of the Convalescent home next door looked straight into our lounge windows. Sykes also neglected to mension the apartment number in their confirmation so had to try the code they gave us on all 6 key safes to find which was ours. I rang Sykes to see if there was any alternative accommodation and again they were unhelpful.

We had booked a week in North Yorkshire for the upcoming September (2024). However, my wife suffered a serious stroke a while back and has deteriorated steadily to the point that I am now her full time carer, helping her dress, toilet, feed, medicate etc. She can't walk more than 5 yards and has to use a stroller and mobility scooter. With all this taken into account, we both felt that the upcoming holiday would be a washout, so decided to cancel. Contacted Sykes who were totally hapless. Even though I'd paid in full at the time of booking AND taken out cancellation insurance, when I tried to cancel, I was shown the pop-up that I am not entitled to a penny! Why??? I contacted the insurance company direct who then sent me a 'claim form'! It was 8 pages long and full of bumff! Question after question unrelated to why I wanted to cancel! In the end I gave up trying and will now have to accept that I will probably lose £709 paid! I have used Sykes many times over the years but never again! Words of warning!..... don't fall for the 'Insurance scam'!!

Torkeld Cottage, Garlieston, Dumfries & Galloway The cottage booked was not clean: the toilet was discoloured and could not be cleaned with bleach, the mattress was extremely stained. There was no way we would have used the bed. The whole place was tired and rather shabby. The garden was secure for our dogs, but the owners five dogs were on the other side of the fence! When we spoke to the owner, he suggested we go home and apply to Sykes for a refund. We contacted Sykes who asked us to take photos which we sent. We then left at 5.30pm - with nowhere to stay and 300 miles from home. Sykes have been no help, closing the complaint within 24 working hours, refusing to consider any form of refund. Needless to say we will not consider using Sykes again.

Awful company to deal with, I will never use again. I have had a massive change in personal circumstances and looked to cancel my holiday asking Sykes for a full or at least partial refund as it was 4 months away that I asked to cancel from attending the cottage, so plenty of time to re-advertise. I then asked if I could change the name on the booking so could at least offer to another couple and the answer was no. A money grabbing, unhelpful company. The phone cuts you off, they never reply to emails and their responses are quite frankly rude and unhelpful. They do not understand your individual circumstances or take these into account. I would really like it if Sykes could reply to my review, or else I will take this further! Awful company. Will never use again or recommend.

Paid the deposit and within the hour had to cancel as one member of our group couldn't make the date - which was by the way over 5 months away until we were due to go - Sykes took the next instalment for the holiday the next date direct from my credit card. You cannot speak to them. The automated phoned system takes you through all the phone options then cuts you off. If you text their message service they don't reply - absolute scammers - I would highly recommend you find a different company to book your holiday with - and use your hard earnt money more wisely. Disgusting service and Company.

Big issue contacting them by text and on line is only an automated list of queries - customer service is non-existent - will be a catastrophe if something goes wrong during our stay. Won’t be using them again. Pity you can’t rate them with Nil stars!

Booked and paid deposit, but did not receive an acknowledgement. Booking not shown on my account, but my frustration was with their customer service which is non existant, 'on line chat' a joke, phone calls totally stonewalled. I have lost faith in them completely, and have asked my bank to refund the payment. This would be a nightmare if I wanted to contact them over something crucual. Never again Dawn.

Absolute terrible company to deal with. Do not use them if you know what's good for you. Property left with no heating or hot water last few days of our holiday. Kept trying to get hold of them and contacted customer services and logged complaint over phone on 3 occasions and sent messages on email and via the app. They would not get back to us and when we called again they said they kept saying the case was closed etc. They are complete scammers and terrible people and company to deal with!

Absolutely terrible customer service . Was sent an invoice for some damage via their portal my puppy caused to a wooden chair this is totally my responsibility but then asked to pay for 2 chairs £249.00!! However no proper running shower and no tv in lounge all week as not connected properly no signal , dog gate also broken for stairs so supplied at cottage and pets could not go upstairs . I reported these things to owner and Sykes . Now multiple emails/WhatsApp telephone calls no one answers for ages and ages as they are busy and if they do they don’t seem to follow up your complaint and just send a standard message again ignoring everything . They have just sent another stark message not addressing my concerns at all raised not offered any refund for the faults at all at the property , just asked for full payment of damage and sending same photos (although they said they were different images they aren’t ) . I was also drawn in by tge £20 deposit scheme
