“I'm a professional pet sitter and have been in business for 10+ years. I have a few clients who have fed their dog(s) Farmer's Dog. Some dogs do fine, but many do not. They like the taste, but experience a lot of gastro issues including diarrhea. Recently, I found out that one of my client's senior dog has a serious kidney issue. He was diagnosed with elevated creatinine, or Brun. Brun is caused by too much protein in the diet. After doing a Google search I found that Farmer's Dog contains 50% protein. Most dogs shouldn't get more than 25%. Please talk to your Veterinarian before you decide to feed your dog Farmer's Dog.”
“Couple years using their plan. Two orders ago called and changed to phone in orders as needed, not using plan.. 1st order using this method worked fine. 2nd order I called and ordered 14 pkgs Pork and 14 pkgs beef.. They said they would ship seperately and I agreed. Assuming total cost would be $180.. Well the decided to charge $180. for each 14 pkgs or $360. for 28 pkgs..or $12.86 per pkg.. Phone call to them on 12/19/24, “that’s the way it is “ BUYER BEWARE..”
“My dog is a senior at 15 years old and before he started the Farmers Dog diet, he kept shaking his head.
The vet gave him meds for an ear infection and $350 later, the meds wore off and he started shaking his head again. After being on the food for a while, his hearing improved, he jumps high like he did when he was a puppy. The only sign of him aging is his gray hair…:) I love what this food has done for him!”
“Our little guy passed recently. He was 16 years old and such a sweet soul. I can't recall the date, but we started on The Farmers Dog because Henry had stopped eating his hard food. WOW, did it make a huge difference. My wife and I absolutely believe that this food added years of wonderful quality living for him. We don't think he would've made it to 16 without The Farmer's Dog. When we fed him, he would literally cry in anticipation and lick his bowl clean. The deliveries were always timely, well packed, and we loved the custom portions with his name on the package (nice touch).
After recently moving and retiring, our little guy was starting to have a difficult time and eventually was just not able to walk on his hind legs, though he still loved his food. Right at the point in which he was to cross that rainbow bridge, we received our next shipment. I called The Farmers Dog simply to cancel the subscription. They were so very sympathetic. Their kindness brought tears to my eyes, and they told me they were reversing the charge on the order, asking only that I donate the food to a shelter - which I did.
I told the woman on the phone that I had only called to cancel and not to request a credit. She said she understood, but did not want us to be charged and again expressed her sympathy. I was honestly floored by her kindness, and in the following days we received a card and a beautiful plant expressing condolences and more warm thoughts.
It is rare that you find a product that you feel so strongly about and even more rare to find a company that has unrivaled customer service. We thank you all for your amazing company, and clearly we'd highly recommend The Farmer's Dog to any dog owner. ❤️”
“the food definitely made my dog's poop healthy and no longer constantly soft. She actually loves every flavor but I am writing this review because of the outstanding customer service team. They respond immediately and help and resolve any issue on the spot. Dealt with Nick today on changing my plan a llittle for the upcoming shipment and it was a total pleasure to deal with competent, responsive people. I'll never switch!”
“Good food but they are making unscheduled deliveries and charging me. When I ask why? they have no answers. Its because they are trying to make their numbers before the end go the last quarter and boosting sales! Very unethical!”
“We received our first delivery of Farmers Dog yesterday morning. I don't know who needs to hear this, but my 6-yr old, picky, finicky, skinny girl, Little Lady ate every little bit of her first meal last night. In fact, she couldn't eat it fast enough. She had to have all her teeth removed 2 weeks ago and we have been super worried that she wasn't getting enough to eat. We made her special meals, scrambled eggs, cheese, everything we could think of to try and get her to eat. She would only graze and would only eat when her stomach was growling so loud we could hear it. This is why we decided to give Farmers Dog a try. Just to see if she would finally eat a good, fresh, balanced meal for once. And, she did! My husband and I were just about in tears watching her eat all her supper last night.
Rayney, our pudgy 2-year old loved her meal last night as well. She is by no means a picky eater. In fact, she will eat anything! But, it's good to know that she is getting a lower-calorie diet to help with her weight management.
It's only been a day but we could not be happier!!!!!!!”
“Our dog, Sequoia was not doing well. she is around 9 years old and very overweight. She was sleeping all day and we felt like she didn't have much longer to live. We started The Farmers dog food in the middle of August and within a couple of weeks she was up all day. She is a totally different dog. Today she went to the vet and she has dropped six pounds. We are so happy. She loves the food and the treats. I would also like to mention that right after hurricane Milton, with trees down everywhere plus the flooding, they were still able to deliver the food to me.”
“The food does not look like it does on their advertisement. It looks like moshed up food. Almost as though they used a blender. Does not look or smell appetizing so no wonder why my dog wouldn't eat it.”
“I tried Ollie, and all three of my dogs would not eat it. So I thought I would try Farmer's Dog. All three of my dogs won't eat Farmer's either. They both look like mush. Definitely doesn't look like it does on TV. The squirrels in my backyard are getting most of it after it sits on the plate untouched. Waste of money.”
“The first time I ordered the Farmers Dog, when I got it it looked like it does on the commercials"
My second order which was $267"?? The food looked like mud. The packages showed a little of the food Gatineau as the tv but mostly looked iike mud.i called to complain and got absolutely no where. I asked the young man what can be done and he used a few lines that was scripted but in one word NOTHING.”
“Naomi, our chihuahua, loved The Farmer’s Dog food. She would empty her bowl instantly since we introduced the food to her. Unfortunately, Naomi passed away suddenly due to cancer, leaving several packages of food unfinished. The Farmer’s Dog company was incredibly kind and sad when they heard the tragic news; they refunded us for all the unused packages and allowed us to donate or dispose of the food. Not only did they offer this thoughtful gesture, but they also sent us a beautiful plant and comforting words of condolence a few days later. This demonstrated how much they care for dogs and their owners. Their support meant a lot to us, and we are truly grateful for their kindness during this difficult time of sorrow. We appreciate friends like them and thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you again, Farmers Dog.”
“I would strongly advise against buying this food. Over the past 3 years the quality has significantly gone down and the packs are smaller and smaller. I've contacted customer service and they refuse to acknowledge the issue. For the price they charge, I'm not sure how they get away with this.”
“I am a veterinarian, I don't feed my dogs this diet but have some clients who did or do. I have seen some pets have gastrointestinal issues with this diet. I found that the food was in pretty large chunks (especially the sweet potatoes) and weren't being digested in one dog. Others had issues with their stool quality, which could be related to the fat content. I feel that with the right guidance, a lot of pet owners could make this food at home for a fraction of the cost.”
“I would recommend against the Farmer's Dog for no other reason than a large amount of conflicting information about whether the product is "good", predatory marketing practices, and a misrepresentation of their nutritional certifications. We recently underwent a health scare with our older dog, and after being pelted with ads, we figured "why not? what kind of pet owner wouldn't want to feed their dog fresh food?". We got a trial, our dog loved it, but she was starving after the first few rounds. We looked around online and found others had similar issues, which led to us investigating their portioning by breed/weight, and seeing how little actual data was being shared with us. What made our Pom diet different than the recipe sent for a working dog? We then fell down a rabbit hole of people sharing accounts of long-term health problems that only appeared after switching diets for a period of time long enough to eliminate adjustment periods.
Ends up we're not alone. We found that FD did not have the same certifications that Purina and other vet-recommended foods do, which is crucial, as this is what makes the food ideal for pets of various breeds. I don't know how FD does it, but it appears to be a one-size-fits-all brand. Our vet (and a few others) were totally unfamiliar with the brand, and advised against it.
We were also presented with a slew of misinformation around alleged pancreatitis tied to long-term usage of the Farmer's Dog. The FD site has a section on this and does not address allegations beyond pancreatitis having multiple contributing factors, which while true, doesn't change the fact that there is enough correlation between diagnoses to make me extremely skeptical of the product. I don't care at this point if it does or not, but I'm extremely offput by the dismissive responsiveness from FD. Stop spending time/resources on why your product isn't responsible for the disease, and start working to get actual certifications for your food, starting with WSAVA.
You are not a bad pet owner for giving your dog processed food if the processed food is vet-approved and vetted by the various regulating bodies to make sure you are not hurting your dog. Don't fall prey to advertising.”
“I have been receiving FD - Food for 2 years now. As I unload each shipment I read the "guaranteed Analysis" content pages that you include. The 3 "recipes" used to be "50-55-60% moisture" - More than half of each sleeve is WATER ! - Recently you have increased those percentages to 72-76-76% = you are basically selling "dog food flavored ice"
- A great business model - as LONG as you get away with IT!!”
“My baby boy Broly loves the chicken meals so far and licks the bowl clean!
He can’t wait to have his meals and his tail goes crazy! I was very hesitant at first getting a new meal since my dog is extremely picky but I am so glad we’re transitioning over to something much more healthier and also happy to see how much he enjoys his new meals.”
“Hello,
I have been a client for 2.5 years. Their food saved my dogs life :) Unfortunately, my dog passed away 09.20.24. Farmers dog sent me the most beautiful plant. Their kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
Thank you, Whitney”
“I have been buying from the farmer's dog for quite some time. On 2 occasions I received 21 packs instead of 22 packs. It's just one pack missing but that is cheating the customers. Charging them for 22 packs but delivering only 21 packs. I thought they would rectify the issue or it was by accident the very first time but it happened again.”
