Good stuff first: the welcoming staff, the safety briefing and the instructor were all really good. Bad stuff: the Caterham Thrill experience was sold as a 2-hour experience discovering the thrill of driving a Caterham round the track. 1. The 'track' was a patch of airfield coned off to make an oval loop, with a slight deviation at one of the ends. The surface itself was made up of two different materials; one was concrete and one covered in a loose grit-like substance. Neither of which were very track-like or suitable for driving fast cars and the instructor even admitted they are both less than perfect. The 'track' took less than 1 minute to complete and can't have been much longer than 800m in total. The spectating area was so far away from the track that they could barely make out what was happening and half the track was obscured from view. 2. The website I bought the experience from stated a 2 hour experience, but the actual experience (driving the Caterham) lasted no more than 6 minutes. The amount of time on the track and length of the track should be stated at point of sale so that people know what to expect when arriving. I feel I was mis-sold the experience and that the product very different to that which was sold to me. 3. Cost: I spent Red Letter Days vouchers on an experience that can be bought a lot cheaper when walking up on the day. The mark-up was 50%, which is disgusting when you consider the product that was sold and my expectations.

Dear Sam, thank you for your honest review. We work hard to ensure everyone has a good experience so I am disappointed that you left us feeling dissatisfied. We will ensure that the Red Letter Days website is updated as it should have been clear that you allow up to two hours at the venue and it's not the drive that takes this long. We do sell extra drives on the day but you have to be booked in advance and they are only available if there is space on the day. The airfield venue allow customers of all abilities to drive the cars in a fun and safe environment without the restrictions of a race circuit. This is also reflected in the price of the experience compared to driving at a race track. Our track is 1 mile long as advertised.

Very disappointed with the track being on a air field and was marked out with cones rather than a man made track, not very good for spectators to view, good points, staff very good, also found I could have paid on the day for half the price I paid ☹️

Not so much a bad experience but disappointing to be asked for voluntary £25 for insurance when I felt the cars should be covered for the purpose, my son was driving and thought he was two laps short of those advised, I was watching and agreed with him, however the car was immediately trade plated and taken away leaving us to assume it was required elsewhere rather than fulfilling our contract. There were too many cars on the rather unexciting track too which held up the driving.

I was bought this as a present for my 50th . My experience started at 10am and was all over by 1025. Extra money was wanted for insurance , booking on a Saturday and any photos . Would not recommend this as it was all over in 25 mins

Great drive but very expensive 6 laps! The track needs to be bigger and have a few right hand turns in it to fully experience the speed and handling of a supercar!

I had a triple car experience booked and this is about the 15th time I have done a similar experience with both UDrive and other suppliers. The reception was good as was the briefing. My first two drives were with the same instructor Alex and he was great even though the Caterham battery was flat so we had to jump start it he was a cheerful guy . My third car the R8 which I have driven before was next. I have to say the instructor was condescending, rrde and miserable and spoilt my whole experience. Regards Steve Best

While booking, logistics and cars were all excellent, the key experience of driving was too short. The track is extremely short - 6 laps in less than 5 mins! At ~£70 a pop, I'd have expected more drive time.

I personally thought the track was poor. Its a good experience driving those cars but having done it before at another circuit it was very poor. The track was made up of cones, and you can't forfill your experience but going round the corners in 2nd gear!

The service and set up was good. I can only compare to other track days I have done with other companies but my comments would be that the cars were actually quite old and dated, the track wasn't a track it was made up of cones and was very very short - 3 laps were done in less than 3 minutes. We drove over an hour to get there and spent a measly half hour at the venue in total. Would check other venues out there before booking as we were slightly dissapointed.

The thrill that I was looking for wasn't there as the driving is too controlled Overpriced for the time u actually get to drive it Never recommend this to anyone Staff were very friendly

Sadly the experience was all too brief. 6 laps of a small, unexciting circuit on the runway at Upper Heyford was over in less than 10 minutes. Not worth the 3.5 hour round trip to get there. The actual driving time should be made much clearer before you book.

I am 75 years old and have been driving for 54 years in a variety of vehicles from aircraft towing tractors to Minis. My current car is a Jaguar 3 litre XF. I was given this Jaguar E-type Thrill as a Christmas present and having never been to event like this I had expectations of an interesting day. I am sorry to say that the experience did not live up to my expectations. My "Thrill" was at 4 pm and I arrived just before 3 pm. Reception was OK, apart from the fact that you had my surname incorrect, but after that there was little to do, and nowhere to sit until the briefing at 3:40 pm. Briefing was OK but the disappointment started when I went on the familiarisation bus ride and discovered how short the circuit was. Our group then went back to the Pits and stood in the drizzle waiting for our drives. I was second in the E-type and after the briefing by the instructor we went out on to the circuit. Driving round the circuit was not difficult and it was a good experience but it soon became apparent how short the circuit really was. It was so short that on both of the straights I was still accelerating at about 65 mph in 3rd gear when we got to the Brakes board for the next corner. (I didn't know how fast we were going because the speedo needle was swinging wildly, something I haven't seen for many years.) Six laps on this course were not enough. I think it would be better if the length of the circuit was doubled and the number of laps reduced to four. When we returned to the Pits the instructor said "Well done" and handed me my card. I was expecting more in the way of feedback and was not sure what "Well done" meant. Was I good or bad. I thought that £20 for a CD of the photos was expensive and £35 for the movie even more so. There were 10 photos and they all seemed to have been taken from the same point on the circuit. When I gave my card and memory stick to the man who was making the CDs he said "Only 5 laps?" because the instructor had drawn only four vertical lines and one horizontal line on the card. He then said "Oh, no, it's six", but it still looks like five to me. One final thing. As a restorer of 1960's railway carriages for a Heritage Railway I do not like what you have done to the front of what has been described as the most beautiful sports car ever. ...Trevor Nicholson

Extremely well organised; good pre-drive briefing and helpful, competent instructors but ultimately disappointing. The course is a flat area marked out with cones to provide two straights linked by two left hand bends. The driving experience is: accelerate in a straight line, brake, turn left, repeat. Three laps of this are over very quickly; not enough to get the feel of a car nor to achieve a satisfying performance. The photos consist of almost identical front shots of an approaching car (7 for each) taken by a cameraman who cannot get a camera straight and level. A competent photographer would be ashamed to offer these for sale.

The driving experience was awesome in the Ferrari and DB9 , did not enjoy the lambo as much . Disappointed that when the video files were uploaded I got the Ferrari twice and not the Lambo , having paid £ 50 for it I assumed that it would have been uploaded correctly

Hi Kevin, thank you for the feedback. I've emailed the photo crew as the video should automatically download on to your memory stick so this shouldn't happen. When I hear back from them I will be in touch ASAP. I'm sorry you have not been able to watch it, but I hope that I can resolve this for you very soon. Kind regards Clare

Given that I had driven for nearly 6 hours on a return journey to get just 15 mins in the car I felt let down. The car chosen for me [it was a Xmas present] was an E type Jaguar because, as a Jaguar owner for many years, this was my iconic car. The car was showing its age, poor interior, uncomfortable seat, lumpy engine, harsh transmission, no synchro on gear box, and, despite uprated brakes, less than positive braking feel and heavy steering. You will say that these " faults" are part of the experience in driving a 1970s vintage car, but I have driven 40 year old classic cars that had a much better driving experience. The circuit was small, could only just get into 4th gear before having to change down for the turn, consisted of only one left hand turn at either end of the straight and would greatly benefit from at least a figure of eight configuration. Whole set up seemed to be cheap and second rate yet demanding first rate charges. A similar experience at Llandow air field, about 30 mins away from me, offers 9 laps of a much bigger and exhilarating course using up to three different sports cars for around £80. Next time I know where I will be going.

The approach on site at Heyford was professional and the cars were all you'd expect - very quick indeed! However the circuit there is far too short and so there's no chance of experiencing what they are really capable of. They are too "long legged" for that. Using a line of cones on an old aircraft runway is uninspiring and absolutely not like going round a genuine circuit like Brands Hatch - which I did years ago in a formula ford. So overall a bit disappointing.

Staff all great but the essential con of talking about laps still hurts! Laps of a few cones was not what was expected from the sales and marketing description - wont we recommending or repeating

Track was small, only had half hour of driving time and was there for about an hour all together if that, thought it was supposed to be two hours, a lot of money to spend on half hours drive
