That's the spirit from which up&up was born. Four years ago, my friend came to me to chat about renewing his apartment lease. He was fed up with how much rent he had paid ($1,000/m over 5 years is $60K!) and that he wasn't able to benefit from the rise in home prices. He was approved for a mortgage but still couldn't buy a home because he couldn't afford the down payment.

I offered to help and we partnered to buy his home together. We split the down payment, split the mortgage payments and he paid me a percentage of what the house would rent for on the share I owned. Because our splits were based on our down payments and rents were obvious from the market, we both knew this was a fair deal amongst friends.

We quickly realized this was a product that could help many Americans who want to stop paying rent and get into their first homes sooner. The vision is powerful but simple - let's build a business on the premise of making fair partnerships, the same type as we did with friends and family, and help as many people achieve homeownership as possible.

I want to start by saying I have NEVER met with anyone from this company [everything is online and painstaking]. They left me with a broken furnace all winter. and now I am still engaged in legal litigation with this company to have my "Wallet money" refunded. Initially, they refused to even refund my deposit, after nearly 6 months of e-mail correspondence, I have only had a portion of the money returned. Up&up appears to be a complete scam. I would NOT recommend dealing with them

I am currently a renter and want to share a tad bit of my experiences so far. First of all the pipes were nearly jammed when I moved in. Of course I did t know this until water started backing up in the bathtubs and showers about a month after I moved in. By backing up I mean brown water and toilet paper coming into the tub and shower. I later found out that the laundry pipes were leaking in the wall and onto the floor. When the Hispanic guy came to fix it, he told them that it was because there were several sanitary napkins and tampons in the pipes. lol Now we know me, a black woman, did not do that lol. FYI…the renters prior to me were Hispanic..ijs. Anyway, they charge ME half of the repair price. So basically, everyone you call them for a repair, you get charged half of the repair price. I had electrical problems for a whole year. They kept sending repair people but would not authorize them to fix it. One repair guy told me the home needs rewiring. They will patch and patch but not actually fix anything and you get charged half of the repair costs lol. I moved in two years ago, yes the lease is for 2 years but it goes up after the first year. I’m waiting on my daughter to finish the school year out so we can go. This company is a rip off. Rent at your own risk.

I've been with upand for 4yrs now and it was a great start, but after my lease was up at my old property they took 3000 out my wallet saying them went down in value and that I needed to have it appraised to get my wallet back up to par, this was after I renewed the lease. So I stuck it out and waited only to find out I'm still not getting my wallets value. So I spoke with a Mr. Needham who said that he would help me to get an appraisal to see if that would help and said that if I moved out and got another one of their properties he would help me. So I moved to a new property and waited only still to not have an appraisal done and they still kept my wallet the same -3000. Once I get to the new property I moved (Brand New) the Ac unit does not work well. They send out 3 different tech who still can't fix the ac and give me temp ac to put in the windows. (CRAZY) Saying that because this a new property I'm under warranty. How about 30days later they charged for the service and the ac still not fixed. I began to reach out to the office because they will not let you pay until the maintenance fee is paid. So I paid because my rent was due and avoid a late fee. Afterwards I start reaching out to their management team to only get a run around. No one follows up, no one picks up the phone except for the leasing team. And they are no help.... it was good start but afterwards of setting goals and trying to be good sport about the whole deal. I finally came to the conclusion that this company is not right me. I even reached out to Micheal Wong who is the founder of the company only to be disappointed again. (No Response from him) see att: In any business communication is key. I really had high hopes of completing a home buying process with them but after the experience I'm getting and receiving....I'm no longer wanting to be a part of this company attributes.

It is impossible to ever get a response or talk to a human person. We had issues that we called and called about and no one ever answered. They said they remodeled the home and they did, but it was a cheap remodel. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Well we are still having issues with this company it's been a minute since I've tried to contact them for anything please don't use this company.wasteof money there are not a professional regardless of what they show and tell you.we rent here.and they never call you back to fix there homes.please stay away.bad company.rain water is filling up this old sumpump in our house smelling like sewage and the light in our living room we called them three weeks ago no response.sad company .but it's your choice don't make a bad one like we did.

Horrible experience with Up&Up since day one. They do not care about the homes that they own, the house was a mess when we moved in so we had to call our own professional cleaners, they do not respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner. They just want a rent check. DO NOT rent from them.

After initial connection, not only were internet links fouled and/or not working, the sales staff was on the point of harassing during a weekend. Not once, twice or three times, but 4 times during the weekend i kept getting hounded to finish the application. After connecting to the website, there was a discrepancy in the stipulations, website said one thing, person or text would contradict and state something else. TOO many inconsistencies for me to work with this company

Unprofessional, invasive, and impolite. After I enquired, and was urged to 'act quickly', I immediately planned a "self tour". Problem with the lockbox, never got in to the house. The following day was informed the house was off the market, then the day after back on. I have been called several times and told my application is incomplete. All this to view a crummy rental?

Was asked to list my husband as my brother to avoid people from being "uncomfortable." Left this on the Facebook Review for them, and was then told if it wasn't removed I couldn't move into my house. Absolutley no regard for the health and well being of customers. After several attempts to get issues taken care of and being told to contact my renters insurance, I began fixing things on my own. The house should have never passed inspection. Literally pipes held together with tape which eventually led to the basement flooding. Walls would begin to crumble due to this issue as well due to this same issue. We've also had electrical issues due to bad/faulty wiring. The garage door they replaced fell on my car as I was leaving causing thousands in damage and rendering the vehicle useless. Again, nobody cared. Currently they are claiming I owe nearly $6,000 in rent. The ledger they provided is filled with mistakes. My rent is caught up, proven by bank statements. Speaking with an attorney as I have been from the beginning. Beware of this company. They are NOT one of the good guys.

I have been physically in the house I am renting for about 45 days. I had to threaten to move out if the (undone work, that should had been completed, before I had moved into this house). They fixed the problems. I don't recommend renting from this company, I moved from Virginia and had no one to check this house for me. I moved in on a blind hope. I also moved out of a 2 story and the electricity bill is higher here and I believe the HVAC unit is too small for this house. This company is definitely all about stuffing their pockets and screwing the unsuspecting tenants.

A complete waste of time and energy. They constantly have you fill out applications on homes they have no intentions buying. This company should be reported because there is definitely some shadiness going on here. False advertisement at it’s finest.

Every single time I inquired about a home all of a sudden it was no longer available. Mind you this happened literally 8 times. But then the company would constantly send you information on the homes you’re not interested in. Then I was told that the owner of a home accepted their offer and congratulated me on my “new home” to only be told days later that the home wasn’t worth the price they were willing to pay. This company is beyond sketchy. Please don’t allow this company to waste your time like they did mine.

Super sketchy. The home I wanted was "bought out" and the other homes were really bad alternatives. They keep buying up the homes in the area but these homes sit on the market and no one takes them. Wasteful.

This company is horrible, they told me I had 2 evictions, several collections and 2 criminal charges on my credit report so they couldn't help me but was able to send me to the credit Bureau. I submit a request for my credit report and disputed the Up & Up decision. Nothing, nothing, nothing on my credit report and had a credit score of 694 she told me it was 619 no evictions, criminal charges nor collections. This company wouldn't respond back and kept me running around for 2 weeks. They are horrible. Please make sure that you know exactly what your credit is before working with them and make sure you have all your T's and I's crossed and dotted before they pull your information.

This company will put really nice homes for rent that they have no intentions of renting out. You show interest in the really nice home and they have you apply to see it. They continue to say they’re waiting for the place to be cleaned or say it’s not ready yet to look at until a certain date. Which is cool, fine. But the day before you’re about to go look at it, it’s already magically rented, even though the home wasn’t even “ready to show yet” then they offer you some crappy other properties to look at that they have for rent. I’m sure the homes are nice but the company is crooked. Do with this information what you want
